“Dying would be a terribly ineffective way to save the world.”

Bergen continued to surprise me with this fast paced fantasy  sequel, that does not disappoint. It continues with action packed adventure, tons of humor and jokes as well as magical elements and fun! This is perfect for fans of A Wrinkle in Time and Fablehaven!

This story picked up months after Thomas and Enrique faced off with Arius and prevented the destruction of the world. Just when they thought things were going back to normal and they were continuing with their new gfs and having fun, hints started to warn of trouble. Quickly we get thrown back into the action and magic to again stop evil sources.

Thomas and Enrique are so funny. There quips and humor really add a fun element to the story, even when in tense situations. As they continue to learn and practice their magical skills, I was dying with what they had to do and go through. It was so funny and Scott definitely had way too much fun with it.

We were introduced to so many new people. I was so surprised that there were so many adults in the book since so many times MG/YA books are absent of parental supervision.  Bergen filled the story with tons of characters that had such big personalities. I was really invested in the characters and all of their backgrounds, skills and overall story. Not saying the plot wasn’t great, because a lot happened in a short amount of time and we slowly are getting more hints as to where Thomas’s dad may be.

The end up having to pair up with an unlikely group to help find a magical item that holds to much power for evil to get ahold of. Which brings about many fight scenes, adventure, scheming and magic!

Overall this was an addicting, fast paced story that I could not put down. It had me on the edge of my seat, had quite a few shocks and surprises and of course dropped hints of whats to come. It very much reminded me of A Wrinkle in Time and the Fablehaven series. All of the characters were so great and had such fleshed out personalities and characteristics. The fighting and different magical abilities was tons of fun to learn about. And then you cannot forget about all of the humor and fun that Thomas and Enrique bring to the story!
