Insurgent

“We both have war inside us. Sometimes it keeps us alive. Sometimes it threatens to destroy us.”

– Veronica Roth, Insurgent

As the factions start to collapse and after one faction is put into a simulation to attack another one, it is up to Tris and Tobias to save the lives of those who have had their right to make decisions taken away. Living with the memories of the past and actions she had made, Tris, is having a hard time dealing with people who used to be her best friends. In an attempt to save the hidden information about what is outside the gates of the society, Tris goes against all of her friends and love of her life, Tobias, to find out that her mom was keeping the secrets of what existed before.

I found Insurgent to be a little less exciting than Divergent. I feel like Roth had a hard time creating a strong story line to follow-up the epic, exciting action from the first book. I do believe Roth could have made Insurgent a lot more appealing if she did not spend so much time filling it with fluff. Through parts of the story I could not manage to put the book down and then there were other parts that angered me and I could not keep reading. I have to admit the ending is a definite cliff hanger and I am patiently waiting for the third book release in October of 2013.

I feel like I really do not have else to say about this book. I feel like a lot of times books that come in series, the second book always falls a little short because the writer wants to drag out the series when they really should not. I feel like besides the extremely important moments of action the second books are never really memorable.

“It reminds me why I chose Dauntless in the first place: not because they are perfect, but because they are alive. Because they are free.”

– Veronica Roth, Insurgent

One thing that I feel like Roth accomplished was to make me fall in love with Tris and Tobias’s view and reasonings for choosing Dauntless. I also feel that need to be free and in control of my own life.
