Well I have been contemplating taking on the project of writing my own novel, I have been thinking a lot about what makes a good story. Like a puzzle you must have all the pieces and have them in the right place in order to see the bigger picture. So what are the components that makes a good story and need to be included within a novel. When I read a book the things I look for are world building and great character development. To move the plot along there must be romance, drama, chaos, battles (either inner self or with another). I feel like all of these things are the givens and most known. I want to know what other people think. When you read a book what are the things that make you fall in love? Is it the use of words and literary devices, the genre, the story, the little extensive details, the reality and believability of the story, uniqueness? What makes a book a GREAT BOOK?
So I was scanning through goodreads and Amazon (my typical, I am avoiding studying for my midterm routine) and I found something extremely interesting. I have found that the quantity of books that are published in some series are outrageous. There is a series that has a 26th book coming out this year. How is that even possible? How is this writer creating so many books going off the same topic/storyline to write this many books/ have enough people purchasing them to continue to write. I wish I could do this. I want to be able to create a series and just keep writing forever and make lots of money. Is that too much to ask ? So how many books is too many for a series?
I know these things are really annoying, but I have a problem and need to help feed my bad habits!

A Poor College Student With an Addiction
So I have been noticing all over social media devices people have been posting pictures of their book hauls. I love that people are just like me and go out and purchase a large amount of books at the same time. My only problem is that I should probably delete my Amazon account because I literally purchase books like every day. It is a horrible habit and I am spending too much money. I need to learn how to read the books I actually have until I buy more. I guess everyone has their obsessions and mine just happens to be purchasing books that I don’t have the money or room for.
Spending so much time at the bookstore and looking at books online I have realized that so many people make it big by writing a book and continuing the series FOREVER! Why can’t I do this? I don’t think I am that great of a writer, but I think I have good ideas (sometimes). I have been told i have a very active imagination, but I don’t think that was totally meant to be a compliment. I have started writing a story. It is hard work and I am nervous that my story will end up being taken from other peoples work. I have read so many books and watched so many movies that I want to be able to create my own story and own world. I want to be good at it and stuff, but I just don’t think I will be able to cut it. But I guess there is no harm in trying so here I go….
Hot guys, comedy and vampires… what more could one want in a movie. I have to say I was happily surprised with the movie adaptation of the book Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. The movie was able to incorporate all of the big important details and although some fell out of order and happened with a different approach it was a pretty good take of a book to movie film. The thing that I greatly enjoyed was the comedy and sarcasm that was present. Sometimes it is hard to have that come across in a book and it was refreshing and greatly enjoyable to watch the movie unfold in that way. And it did not hurt that Danila Kozlovsky is very nice to look at and has an amazing voice!
So as far as books being adapted to movies, I consider the Vampire Academy to be a win!
“But there is something about the darkness, the stillness of this hour, I think, that creates a language of its own. There’s a strange kind of freedom in the dark; a terrifying vulnerability we allow ourselves at exactly the wrong moment, tricked by the darkness into thinking it will keep our secrets. We forget that the blackness is not a blanket; we forget that the sun will soon rise. But in the moment, at least, we feel brave enough to say the things we’d never say in the light.”
