review

*I would like to thank Netgalley for this as an e-book from netgalley in return for an honest review.*

This is an amazing book for fans of the Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi and the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth.

Branded is a fast paced, unique concept dystopian novel revolving around sins, forbidden love and the need to drive a revolt against the standing government. This is a story about Lexi and how she came to be and her life in the Hole. The Hole is the place where those accused of sins are taken after they are branded with the color of their sin around their neck. Her life is crumbling around her and she struggles with the judgement and consequences that surround her newly branded skin.

This story has absolutely everything. The world building was amazing and it was so greatly detailed that I felt like I was there. Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and the character development was greatly done as well. Most times you find books with either great world building and characters or a astounding plot, but for me Branded contained both. The plot was filled with sorrow and unexpected twists that I never saw coming. I also felt like the book covered some deeper topics that really round out the book and made it more than a normal dystopian novel.

Lexi was a strong female character that struggled and was weak at moments, but had so much growth and became a fighter because thats what she wanted for herself. Then with all great books there was the swoon worthy character of Cole. How could you help, but fall in love with him and his trusty dog Zeus. I have to say that Zeus was one of my favorites! Even the secondary characters played such a large role in the book.

Action packed up to the very last pages, I was very impressed with this book and happily surprised. Lately all the dystopian books I have read recently all seem to share too many qualities and Branded is for sure a unique, one of a kind read that I highly recommend!

review

I actually saw this movie (against my will) before I read the book. With that being said I was very hesitant to pick up this book, but I am so incredibly happy that I did! With the end of the world quickly approaching, what does it take to change the corse of the future?

The writing is absolutely beautiful and totally captivated me from the very beginning. The book was written in such a way that I kept forgetting that this was a Zombie Love Story of sorts.( Which was a good thing because that whole topic kind of creeps me out because when I think of zombies I think of dead, rotting corpses that eat humans) It carries with it such deeper meanings of hope and the possible cure to the horrendous trials that we are put through in life. So many questions of life are present and make you really think, What makes us human? It was so crazy that in such a fun, lighthearted  topic of a zombie falling in love, that there were so many parts that made me think. I truly fall in love with the characters and felt for them and the situations they were facing.

As to be expected Marion sets up some very gruesome scenes that are important to any good Zombie story, filled with blood, gore and brains! But this is not like The Walking Dead, think more along the line of a zombie version of Edward Scissorhands!

” i did a lot of drugs when i was younger. started when i was twelve and tried almost everything. i still drink and smoke pot when i get the chance. i even had sex with a guy for money once, when i was thirteen. not because i wanted the money-even back then money was pretty worthless. just because it was awful, and maybe felt like i deserved it.”

 – Isaac Marion, Warm Bodies

I haven’t decided if I want to do a movie review. So if you would like me to review the movie as well let me know! Also I am trying out a new format, let me know what you think. Do you like this set up better than my old one?

COLE FROM BRANDED BY ABI KETNER & MISSY KALICICKI

“Its nice to meet you. I’m Cole.” He reaches over and shakes her hand. “Lexi told me a lot about you, and I couldn’t help but want to meet this special girl.”

This is the moment I absolutely fell in love with Cole. He is tough and strong and very dedicated and determined, but shows that there is a softer side. And this is like my greatest weakness with men. I love those guys that are jerks, but then when it comes to something important they show they have more to them and that being a jerk is a front.

Creating a TBR List

I have been working on coming up with a TBR List for June and it is proving to be very difficult! There are so many books I want to read. I know I am horrible at following my list I create anyways, but I like to have it so that when I struggle to pick a book to read next I already have a laid out list of what I would like to read in the next month.(If that makes sense. I just reread that sentence and I am not sure if it sounds as good as it did in my head. Oh well)

I want to make progress in my TBR pile and get a lot of books read in the next couple of months. I also have some e-arcs to read and books to review that will be put on my TBR List. I also plan on participating in #SummerofSpells which is a Harry Potter read-a-long being hosted on twitter (mainly) by some booktubers and other book bloggers. But other than that I just have so many books I want to read I can’t narrow down my list.

It is just to hard so I guess the reason I am writing this post is to ask for help. If you follow my blog you should be familiar with a lot of the books I own (or if you don’t you could just go through my past TBR List because most of them haven’t been completed or my book hauls!) What books would you like to see me read and review? Are there any books you are planning on reading in the next month and would like to have a buddy to do a read-a-long with? A book you absolutely loved and want someone else to read it? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Friday Reads! [5/30]

549871_543681332339041_863237682_nThis weekend I plan on finishing the two books I am currently reading so that I can start anew for the 1st of June! I am about halfway through Branded by Abi Ketner and Missy Kaliciki. I am actually enjoying it more than I thought I would. It has some very interesting concepts for a dystopian novel. This is one of the e-arcs I have and I believe it is set to be released on June 3rd! So I definitely want to get it read and put up a review very soon! The other book I am currently reading, which I received in the mail yesterday and was also released yesterday is Guardian by Alex London! This is the sequel to Proxy in the Proxy duology. I am only about 50 pages in and I am already really intrigued! Other than that my plans for the weekend are to catch up on my book                                                             reviews of those books I recently finished

Bookish Excitement !

Today has been a good day for me regarding bookish things!

I won a book giveaway on twitter! Someone else was giving away books on twitter and I was able to claim one!

And Michelle Krys the author of Hexed has agreed to do a blog interview! So if you were able to get your hands on an early release copy of Hexed and have any burning questions for Michelle Krys let me know! I would love to be able to give other fans/readers the opportunity to ask a question! (I plan on sending her the questions sometime later tomorrow)

Hexed is being released on June 10th 2014! I will be posting my review very soon along with the interview with the author, Michelle Krys! I also think I might be holding a giveaway for the book (not 100% sure yet!) SO keep your eyes open for that!

Any exciting bookish things happen in your life lately?
