Making Up For Monday {6/30}

Today’s Question: Do you read ahead or skip pages?

NO! When I was younger I use to have this horrible habit of reading the last page first, but I no longer do that. I also don’t skip pages while reading unless it is a textbook. (Textbooks are horrible!) I do skim ahead on a page if something actiony or such is coming up, but thats about it.

Do you have any “bad” reading habits or read ahead/skip ?

Mini Vacay Book Haul

My blog is like my baby and I hate leaving it for so long, but I am back and have some exciting things to show/share from my mini vacay in Northern Michigan with Autumn from Kitty Cat Reads (and my real life bff and soul mate!) Of course the two of us went to a local bookstore and coffee shop to work on our blogs for a day!

I am all about supporting local and independent bookstores so I had to make a purchase (of course). I bought Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead, which is the first book in a four book series. (I am planning on someday owning/reading everything by Richelle Mead!) We spent the rest of our time enjoying the sunshine and reading our books! We even attempted to do some vlogging (not sure if I will actually post it, we will see what the final product looks like)

How could you not enjoy this view! As well we were also able to find an awesome deal for a bind up of a trilogy from Walmart. Autumn and I both bought a copy of  SummerTrilogy ( The Summer I Turned Pretty, Its Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer) by Jenny Han! I have had this trilogy in my cart on Amazon for awhile since it has been talked about a lot recently in the book community and could not believe the deal for the bind up.

When I stopped at my parent’s house on the way home I picked up my package that was delivered there, which was a surprise and I have no idea where they are from, but inside the box was The Sweet Trilogy (Sweet Evil, Sweet Peril and Sweet Reckoning) by Wendy Higgins! I really wish I knew where the box came from, but still how could you not love a box of surprise free books!

When I got home from my trip I found some presents in my mailbox! I received some swag from Michelle Krys the author of Hexed! I got a two bookmarks and a signed book plate! I also received an Arc copy of  How We Fall by Kate Brauning! The book comes out in November and you can check out the synopsis and such here! The author was nice enough to send me a copy for review as well as some book swag! She wrote me a cute little note along with some info bookmarkish things (one of them is even signed!) She was also nice enough to sign the book for me! Thank you so much Kate Brauning! (This is my first official physical Arc!)

As well as all the books, another exciting thing was posted this weekend on YA Reads , my guest post about the top books I have read so far this year! So you should definitely go check that out! A few months ago I would have never believed I would be getting so many opportunities and making an impact (whether it is just a small one) in the book community! Thank you to everyone who has friended/ supported me 🙂

Friday Reads {6/27}

Untitled design-11

I have decided to put Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch on hold since I have had so much going on recently and have not had enough time to dedicate to it. (I plan on getting back to it in a few weeks!) I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling, but have only about 30 pages left.(So I should for sure be able to finish it by today!) After I finish that I plan on picking up Tithe by Holly Black! I am up visiting Autumn from Kitty Cat Reads and she picked that book for me to read next.

titheI don’t know much about it besides that it is urban fantasy and she loved it, which is enough reason for me to pick it up! I am hoping the weather is going to be super nice because we want to spend the whole day outside in the sunshine reading! If I manage to get through both of those books this weekend (because I am on a mini vacay so I have nothing else to do) I will probably pick Red Seas again or start Charm and Strange by Stephanie Kuehn because those are the only books I have up north with me !

What are you currently reading or planning on reading this weekend?

This was a very good month for me in terms of receiving books for review and winning giveaways and such. I will include after each book where I purchased/ received it from! There are a few I am still waiting on, but I will include them in my July book haul! I also feel like I spent a lot less money on books this month which is really good for me especially compared to the past few months.

Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill – I have been trying to get into more contemporary and this was really cheap on Bookoutlet and I it brought me to the total so I could use the coupon!

Hexed by Michelle Krys – I have already read this and if you view my blog at all you would know that I enjoyed it and have been promoting it like crazy! I even did an interview with the author! I had to have to hardcopy of this because the naked book is absolutely beautiful!

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard – This is the first book in a paranormal series I have been eyeing and when I was creating my Bookoutlet order I saw it for pretty cheap and figured why not.

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson – This is a retelling of Peter Pan. I have heard absolutely amazing things about this book and can’t wait to read it.

King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence – This is the second book in The Broken Empire series. I am trying to get all the books so I can binge read the whole thing!

The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen – I do not know much about this book, but heard someone on booktube rave about it and I have been looking for more fantasy books and found it cheap on Amazon so I had to get it.

Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon – I bought this because I had won the second one in a giveaway and it was on Bookoutlet for cheap.

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne – I bought this because I was planning on going to the Fierce Reads book signing, but wasn’t able to make it. I don’t know much about this but it is intriguing.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – I am so EXCITED about reading this book. I have had it on my TBR for so long and can’t believe I just only bought it.

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout – This is the second book in the Lux series. Everyone says amazing things about this series and I have been interesting in reading more about aliens as well as more of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s work.

Adaptation by Malinda Lo –This was recommended to me and has been on my last few TBR lists. I initially received this from netgalley but it expired before I could get to it so I just bought it!

Half A King by Joe Abercrombie – I have already read this and absolutely loved it! I received this signed copy from the publisher for having a my question picked by the author!

IMG_1933 ♠ The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd –I love that this is inspired by the classic the Island of Doctor Moreau. I also really want to get into gothic thrillers.

The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson – This is the second in a fantasy trilogy. I have heard lots of good thing about this and hope to binge read it sometime soon.

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows –This is the first book in a trilogy about reincarnation and sounds very intriguing.

Asylum by Madeleine Roux –This looks good and creepy. I love horror movies, but haven’t read much in the horror genre and really want to.

The Fear Trials by Lindsay Cummings – This is the prequel to The Murder Complex. I have already read and reviewed this.

♠ I Am The Mission by Allen Zadoff –This is the sequel to I Am The Weapon which is about an assassin and I received it from netgalley in return for a honest review.

The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O’Brien – This comes out in September 2014  and is science fiction about dreams.I received it from netgalley in return for a honest review.

Schasm (LibraryThing) –I received this from Early reviewers from Library Thing for a honest review. This is about dreams, being caught between two worlds and sounds really interesting.

The End of You and Me by Wendi M. Lee –I was asked by the author if I would review this book. I have already read and reviewed it.

The After by Briane Pagel –I was also approached by the author to see if I would review this book. It is not something normal to what I usually read, but sounds unique.

Mechanical by Pauline C. Harris – This is a book written by a fellow member in the book blogging community. Harris is a book tuber and I can’t wait to read this and be able to support other book bloggers.

Still so many books and more to come, but soon enough I won’t be able to get any so I am going to enjoy it for now 🙂

What books did you get this month? Have you read any of these? Which one should I read first?

Sorry for the long and repetitiveness of this post.

Bookish Bucket List |Update #3

It has been three month since I posted my Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Bucket List for 2014. I am continuing with my monthly update to show the progress I am making.

Top Ten Things On My Bookish Bucket List (2014)

1. Read (complete) at least 50 book. (I am currently at 38 books read and in the middle of two other books)

2. Finish Anna Karenina (The status on this still hasn’t changed yet. I am going to attempt to make a list of things I remember and the plot and such before I pick it up again)

3. Start the Harry Potter Series (I have finished the first book and I am currently making my way through the second one!)

4. Complete all of my unfinished book reviews (I still have a few old ones to catch up on, but I might just not do them unless someone asks or its part of a series)

5. Read at least one classic (This summer, I swear!)

6. Step out of my comfort zone of YA Fiction and read at least one biography/nonfiction work (This still needs to be done)

7. Complete at least 3 series (something with more 4 or more books)(I still have one more series to go since I have finished The Vampire Academy Series and The Song of the Lioness Quartet!)

8. Break into the adult fiction genre more. (at least 3) ( I read The Lies of Locke Lamora earlier this year and I am currently reading the second book in that series, Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch.)

9. Read more of the books on my shelves before buying more (I don’t think this will ever be accomplished.I have some serious problems.HA! This sounds like a funny joke)

10. Complete a book that is 800pgs or more (not including Anna Karenina) (There are multiple books that fit this, I just need to make time to read them)

What are you goals for this year? Have you been able to accomplish any so far?

Making Up For Monday {6/23}

Untitled design-16

Hosted by An Avid Reader, A Wannabe Writer

Today’s question: If you were a high school English teacher, what five books would you put on your reading list?

This question is kind of a hard one for me. I don’t feel like I read enough books that have a deeper meaning and such that can be discussed and taught in a classroom setting. I am also just not very good at picking things and making choices. Other than the good ones that are already being used like To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee .I think some newer works such start to be incorporated in the educational systems that cover more current topics. I guess one that I think would be Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. That is the only one I can think of by name. I know there are some important books about bullying and LGBT matters that I think would be good to start incorporating into high school.

Does anyone have any good ideas (since I am not good at it and failed answering the question)? What books would you put on the reading list?

The Liebster Blog Award | Round #3

Every though I have already done this a few times now I have no problem with talking about myself and sharing my love of books! Thanks to Annette over @ Booknerderie for tagging/nominating me. This Liebster award is a little different than other ones before. There are just questions in which I am going to answer and than those who I nominate of those who would like to just have to answer the questions and nominate their own people!

1. What is your preferred reading format? E-book, paperback, hardback?

I prefer a physical copy of a book over an electronic format. For whether paperback or hardback it makes no difference to me. I do prefer to own the hardcover of a book because I feel like they look prettier on the shelf!

2. If you could only recommend one book for another to read, what would it be and why?

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll [x].(The copy I linked is one of the ones I own and is amazing!) This is one of my all time favorite books and feel like everyone should read it. I also feel like it is a story so easy to read multiple times. Every time I read it I find something new I love about it.

3. One of the recent themes of Top Ten Tuesday was: if you like this TV show/film, you should read this book. Provide a book recommendation based on your favorite film or TV show.

These are always hard for me, I feel like I am the worst at doing this. I guess I have to say that if you like Charmed than you should read Hexed by Michelle Kyrs.

4. What is your opinion on commenting on blog posts?

I love commenting and getting comments. It makes me feel like someone is reading/appreciating what I am posting. Although I don’t post for the purpose of getting a response it is nice to see what others think and feel about things. I also like having discussions with others and learning more about books and books I should read etc.

5. What is your most anticipated read of 2014?

One of my most anticipated reads of 2014 already came out and I have already read it, Guardian by Alex London! But I guess I would also say that I am highly anticipating the fourth book in the Gentleman Bastard Series by Scott Lynch (although I am only currently reading the second books).

6. We all know about blogger hype, which book have you read which did not live up to the hype?

Angelfall by Susan Ee- I really wanted to like this, but it just didn’t do it for me. You can check out my review of the book here.

7. Name one author whose books you will always read.

All of those authors are dead, but I have recently discovered/been recommended some amazing authors that I have set out to read all works by them- Tamora Pierce, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Patrick Ness and Scott Lynch!

8. There are certain bloggers whose opinions I value, when they give a good review I will go out of my way to read that book. Name a blogger whose opinions you value and explain why?

There are too many to name them all here. I am planning on creating a post about all the bloggers I love and such soon so look out for that post.

9. What is your favorite part of blogging? The book tours, the reviews, the memes, the community…?

I love everything about the blogging experience. I have felt like I have made some sincere connections with other bloggers and enjoy being able to share my passion with others who also fell the same way. And recently my best friends has started to blog and it has been something we have been able to do together and share!

10. What’s your favorite of your own blog posts?

I love them all equally! 🙂

11. What’s your favorite word and why?

Wanderlust– It just engulfs all that I want to be, I just want to be free like a bird and roam the world. (so corny I know)

12. How long do you spend reading blogs each week?

Lately too much time! I find myself scrolling through blogs more than I am reading my books.

13. When is your favorite time to blog?

All time/every day 🙂

14. Why do you think people blog?

I’d say it’s the same reason I blog. To share their passions and express themselves!

15. How long does it take you to compose an average blog post?

It just depends on what I am doing. I feel like sometimes I just type and don’t really think about what I am typing so it is probably all jumbled and nonsensical. When I write book reviews I try hard to take time and think about it so that I convey my feelings and give a good review for others to read. But i try to remain true to myself and share that through my blog ( I even like to make up my own words because its my blog so I can do whatever I want right?)

16. What do you think makes a good blog?

I feel like Annette worded this perfectly–> I think a good blog is one that’s full of personality, honesty and passion.

17. How do you find new blogs to follow?

People that follow me, social media, comments made on my blog, searching the internet, stumbling upon them from the hours lost down the rabbit hole of the internet.

18. Would you ever stop following a blog? Why?

Unless something happens that doesn’t go well with me or post things that are offensive.

19. When do you find it most difficult to blog?

When life decides to throw a bunch of stuff at you.

The bloggers I am tagging/nominating:

♠ Autumn @ Kitty Cat Reads

♠ Brooke @ Bibliophilic Babblings

♠ Erin @ Raised Reading

Kittens and Books

♠ Krystal @ Books Are My Thing

Swoon Worthy Saturday {6/21}

Untitled design-14

Saturday is a day for swooning. Swoon Worthy Saturday is a weekly meme where in we present a fictional boy who has swept us off our feet, given us butterflies, made our heart do acrobatics and driven us absolutely crazy! (Hosted by StayBookish )

Jean Tannen                                                                       Red Seas Under Red Skies, Scott Lynch

Now Jean is not the typical book character I swoon over, but there is just something about him that I can’t help but absolutely love. He is an amazing fighter and carries around two hatchets he calls the “Wicked Sisters”. What is not to love about that. He is also highly intelligent, sarcastic and witty. In my head I think I have this totally different image of him than what he is actually suppose to look like and everything, but I still think he has a fantastic personality and I am not ashamed to admit that I find him completely Swoon Worthy!
