Iron Cast by Destiny Soria | Author Interview

In anticipation of Iron Cast being released October 11th 2016 ! Here is my interview with Destiny Soria!

Iron CastIRON CAST BY DESTINY SORIA

Synopsis:

It’s Boston, 1919, and the Cast Iron club is packed. On stage, hemopaths—whose “afflicted” blood gives them the ability to create illusions through art—captivate their audience. Corinne and Ada have been best friends ever since infamous gangster Johnny Dervish recruited them into his circle. By night they perform for Johnny’s crowds, and by day they con Boston’s elite. When a job goes wrong and Ada is imprisoned, they realize how precarious their position is. After she escapes, two of the Cast Iron’s hires are shot, and Johnny disappears. With the law closing in, Corinne and Ada are forced to hunt for answers, even as betrayal faces them at every turn.

 INTERVIEW WITH DESTINY

-Top 5 Things readers need to know about the book

  1. It’s set in Boston, just before the ratification of Prohibition in 1919.
  2. Corinne and Ada, the main characters, are BFFs whose hobbies include poetry, music, kicking ass, and taking names.
  3. The girls are up against a creepy asylum, a corrupt councilman, and a sinister government agency.
  4. The book is chock full of magic, mobsters, betrayal, and intrigue.
  5. Also socialists.

– Who/What was your inspiration for becoming a writer? How long have you been writing?

Stories have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad used to tell me bedtime stories every night when I was a kid. When I was seven or eight, I decided to try my hand at it and wrote a book called “Horses of All Kinds” (complete with illustrations and staple binding). I’ve been writing ever since.

– Which of your characters would you say you are most like?

I guess I probably have the most in common with Corinne, in that I also love poetry, am quite short, and am a perpetual smartass.

– If your book was to be turned into a movie who would you cast as your leads?

I think Jasmin Savoy Brown would make a lovely Ada. And Zoey Deutch has the perfect amount of sass to be Corinne.

– Did you have to research anything for your book?

So. Much. Research. I am also not the best at keeping myself focused, so a lot of the research time was spent falling into rabbit holes of Youtube videos of old Model T’s and looking at pretty flapper dresses.

– In 5 words how would you describe Iron Cast?

An excess of witty banter.

– If your characters were in the hunger games who’d win? Which Hogwarts house would your main character be in?

Is it cheating to say that Corinne and Ada would probably pull a Katniss/Peeta at the very end with the berries? Also Corinne is a Slytherin and Ada is a Gryffindor. Hurray for unlikely friendships!

– What’s on your playlist? Does the music go with your book?

There’s a pretty bizarre mix of 1920s tunes, Metric, Bastille, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, and even some TSwift. When it comes to creating a writing playlist, I usually pick songs that remind me of characters or capture the “feel” of the story. One of these days I’ll probably make it public, so stay tuned! (See what I did there?)

Top Ten Tuesday| Netflix Binge Worthy Shows

Untitled design-9
This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Top Ten revolving around TV shows! I have been traveling a lot and haven’t had much time to catch up on new shows, but I have been doing a lot of netlix binging!

Stranger Things ♣ STRANGER THINGS (Netflix Original)

How could I not include this one on my list. Not only has it been blowing up the social media, but it is a creepy suspense filled show with just enough strange to keep you hooked. I loved that it was so much like a 70s/80s sci-fi.

Unknown

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK (Netflix Original)

This is also another go to for many people. The seasons cannot seem to come out soon enough. It filled with drama and is always referencing books which is awesome! It is a guilty pleasure that pulls you in.

Unknown

♣ THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSONS (Syfy)

This is one my friend had turned me onto. It is based in New Zealand and revolved around 4 brothers who are norse gods! The only downfall is the show sucks you in so bad and then is canceled after season 3 with no real ending (or at least a good enough ending for me).

♣ HAVEN (Syfy)

This is another Syfy hit in my mind. I have not heard much about this show from others, but it is one to check out. It is based on a small town that is being plagued by some strange and weird occurrences. It has drama, some hotties and troubles.

♣ GILMORE GIRLS

A complete classic! I have rewatched this series so many times and love it more and more each time. When I am doing work or getting ready it is usually on in the background.

Unknown

♣ PARKS AND RECREATION

If you ever need a good laugh and don’t have much time this is the show for you. The characters are amazing and the show gets better as you go. I can rewatch this a million times and it would still be so funny.

Unknown

♣ LAW AND ORDER: SVU

This is a show that never stops and is so addicting. I have spent the past few days watching this non-stop. There is something awful and horrible but at the same time so enthralling that I cant stop watching it.

♣ CHARMED

This is also a classic in my opinion. Strong women who kick demons butts, what is better! There are demons, sister witches, family and relationship drama. It has the great early 90s clothing and so much humor.

Unknown

♣ SALEM

This has been my current obsession. I have been watching it any time I get a chance. I have always been so interested and intrigued by the Witch Trails and this is like The Crucible on steroids!

Unknown

♣ HEMLOCK GROVE (Netflix Original)

I have only watched the whole first season but the second season is out. It twisted and a little weird, but thrilling and dark.  I would only advise this show to those with strong stomachs.

What are your go to shows to binge?

This or That Book Tag

“THE RULES:

Mention the creator of the tag (Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks).
Thank the blogger who tagged you!
Choose one of the options, you don’t have to tell the reasons why you chose that but you can also do them if you want to.
Tag 10 other people to do this tag to spread the love!”

I was tagged by Pore Over The Pages  to complete the This or That Book Tag. The original tag was created by Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks. As the title suggests, you choose one of two options, this or that. Here we go!

1. READING ON THE COUCH OR ON THE BED?

I love reading in my bed, but when I read in my bed that results in me falling asleep.

2. FEMALE OR MALE MAIN CHARACTER?

I do enjoy reading books with male main characters, but seeing as I am a female it is always so much better to have a female kicking some butt and being awesome!

3. SWEET OR SALTY SNACKS WHILE READING?

I have a HUGE sweet tooth!

4. TRILOGIES OR QUARTETS?

I have always found that that trilogies seem to have horrible middle book syndrome. I find that I enjoy quartets or longer series because I always want more.

5. FIRST PERSON OR THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW?

I cannot chose. There are different things about both that I really enjoy

6. READING AT NIGHT OR IN THE MORNING?

I like to sleep in. I am a night owl and have a hard time sleeping sometimes so the reading helps me sleep

7. LIBRARIES OR BOOKSTORES?

Libraries are awesome and I wish I utilized them more, but there is nothing better than walking around and looking at all the new books.

8. BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR CRY?

I dont really laugh at books a lot. I find that books that can move me to tears it must be amazing

9. BLACK OR WHITE BOOK COVERS?

Black. White gets too dirty

10. CHARACTER OR PLOT DRIVEN?

Character development it everything. I mean it is important to have a moving plot but if the characters are flat then the story is ruined.

Tag, you’re it! If you want to complete this book tag, consider yourself tagged. Have fun and happy reading!
