2018 Reading Stats

I think it is fun to see a break down of books read in a year. So I put together some fun graphs and charts for my 2018 Reading Stats! I also did this last year and found it so much fun to look at the stats. Even the differences from one year to the next! You can check out my 2017 Reading Stats . As well to see how different my reading years were from type of books I read to how many I completed! I was able to complete 68 books (*as of 12/29) this year which is 19 more than last year!

I am not surprised that I read more books by females this year. It was not something I was trying to accomplish, but just happened.

With life and work I have been pretty busy this year. Not at all surprised that most of the books I read were audiobooks. They have allowed me to read while I am multitasking and too busy to sit and read. You can check out my post about How I Read Audiobook!

This is something I am hoping to change next year. I read books from 27 different series. Only completed 6, which you can check out on my 2018 Series Challenge. Although I do want to focus more on series. I want to focus on completing ones I have started before I keep starting more.

This makes me a little sad. Because I had a goal in 2018 to read Big Books and only read 2 that were over 500 pages. I am happy though that the majority were between 301-500 and not smaller books.

This stat also makes me a little sad. The fact that I have so many books on my shelves at home that I didn’t get to this year. I have over 300 unread books on my bookshelves. I do love the library though. Even though I own so many books there is something about going to the library and picking up books to borrow. Also all of the audiobooks I listen to are from Overdrive!

This was a very interesting stat for me. As someone who has never been a big fan of contemporary/romance books it was my most read category this year. Totally accredit that to the fact that a lot were New Adult. And those are easier for me to listen to as audiobooks. I really do wish I read more fantasy/paranormal. I have so many books picked out for next year that fall in those genres.

This one definitely seems pretty typical of my reading style. I’ve really been enjoying New Adult books and Middle Grade books are so whimsical, fast reads! I do hope to add some more adult books to the mix next year. Especially since so many of the fantasy books I want to read are adult books!

I’d love to see that the longest book page number for next year is 1000. That always seems to be the goal when trying to tackle big fantasy books!

I am happy that the majority of the books I read this year were skewed to the right. When trying to decided on my top reads this year it was definitely a difficult decision because there were so many I really enjoyed!

I beat my goal of 2018 Beat the Backlist Challenge! I was also really surprised to see that I read so many books that were published this year.

This is an interesting graph and shows I am not very consistent with reading. But one thing it shows is during Dec I try to read all the books and then in Jan I am so excited for all the new goals!

I love seeing that on average I am reading 68 pages a day. Some days it might just be a few pages and some days it tons more, but I have a goal of at least reading a little bit everyday. I would love to break 30,000 pages next year.

Did you keep track of any of your reading stats? How many books did you read overall this year?

  1. I love all your graphs, Ashley! That’s so great that you seem to keep your reading game pretty strong year long! I always tend to have a reading slump every year for one reason or another. I also tend to read more female authors for whatever reason and over the years, I’ve been tending to read more and more by female authors. Maybe it’s a genre thing. I hope your 2019 is just as productive!

  2. I found all of this interesting, I rarely read standalones because I mostly read Young Adult Fantasy, and I’ve found a sever lack of standalones in that genre.
