Friday Reads | Hiding From The Cold

downthebookholeIt snowed this morning and its colder than an ice cube outside. That means besides running a few errands and going to the gym this weekend I will be hiding in my apartment cleaning, watching the new season of The Great British Baking Show and reading a ton! I have a quite a few books I want to be able to finish this weekend. I need to focus on reading over social media because social media and rewatching Grey’s Anatomy have been consuming all of my time. I am currently about halfway through  I’ll Be Gone In the Dark by Michelle McNamara, so far this book has been so gripping, but it has been freaking me out since I live alone. The slow reveal of the events, connections and horrific acts is so brilliantly done. I also started The Crowns of Croswald by D.E Night which is one of the books from the Traveling Book group I am a part of with some others from the book community. So far the book is whimsical and full of magic, which is very reminiscent of Harry Potter. It is a quickish read but is taking me a little longer because I am writing in the margins and making notes. I have been falling asleep the past few nights listening to the audiobook of Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. I have only made it about a third of the way through because I dont last very long before passing out. This is a reread for me and I am so glad that I am rereading this series because I am enjoying it just as much as the first time. This was the first YA series that really got me back into reading other books rather than just rereading all the books I loved. Today I picked up the whole Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull from the library. I received book 1 & 2 in the spinoff series by Brandon Mull and figured I should read this original series first! So tons of reading to be had this weekend!

Friday Reads | Last October Weekend

downthebookholeWith it being the last official weekend of October, I need to fit in all of the spooky, creepy reads! Earlier this week I read The Bone Artist by Madeleine Roux and it was exactly what I needed to get back in the Asylum series world and to make it really feel like it is Halloween time. I jumped right into the 3rd book in the Asylum series, Catacomb by Madeleine Roux and I am about 100 pages into it! It is the goal to finish it this weekend! I also went to the library this week and picked up I’ll Be Gone In the Dark by Michelle McNamara. I was told by a coworker about this book and I am really looking forward to starting this one. I have a weird obsession with True Crime and don’t read enough in this category. I also haven’t really been listening to audiobooks lately, but started one the other night when I was struggling to fall asleep. I am like 3 chapters into Wink, Poppy, Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke. It is interesting so far and I am intrigued to see how it goes.

Friday Reads | Readathon Weekend!

downthebookhole

This weekend is the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon and I am very much looking forward to participating! I havent been reading as much lately and havent even gotten the chance to read any spooky, creepy or fall type reads! With Autumn upon us and the weather here in Nebraska finally starting to feel like it I want to spend some time outside with some apple cider and do some reading while I still can! I also have a bunch of errands that I need to run this weekend, like laundry and oil change for my car, all things I can take my book with me to and still be productive. I have not yet selected my tbr for the readathon and will most likely do it later tonight and will do all of my readathon posting on either instagram and twitter- @downthebookhole. I would love to know if you will be participating and what you plan on reading! I am currently reading Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan with about 100 pages left. I am really enjoying it so far, the world is so interesting (although I wish we got a little more about it) and the whole concept of the story is something new I havent read before with the inspiration from Asian culture. I also and very excited about the love interest and was rooting for it from the beginning!

Friday Reads | Rainy Weather Weekend

downthebookhole

With the way the weather has been the past week, all I have wanted to do is curl up with a book and read. I have been reading and annotating Home and Away by Candice Montgomery. I am reading this for a traveling book club. I am almost half way through it and not completely loving it, but I am too stubborn to give up on it and all the annotating I already did. I really struggle with DNFing books. I am also listening to Uglies on audiobook as a reread. With Scott Westerfeld coming out with a new book in the Uglies world I thought it was a perfect time for a reread of a series that really got me into YA! I have some different blog posts I want to work on this weekend as well but the big focus will be snuggling up and reading!

Friday Reads | #ARCAugust & Traveling Book Time

downthebookhole

With the end of August upon us it means I need to kick it into gear with all of the ARCs I have to read, especially the ones that come out in September. I am also starting to switch the seasons in my head and have been craving thrillers, mysteries and paranormal reads in anticipation for fall and HALLOWEEN!!! My current read, Seventh Born by Monica Sanz  is definitely fulfilling my fall needs because it revolved around witches at boarding school. I know what  you are thinking, Ashley that sounds too much like Harry Potter. And I will tell you right now it gives off some vibes/feels of HP for the fact that it is a boarding school for magic, it also slightly reminds me at times of Vampire Academy because they focus on elements. With that being said I am only a little over half way through it and although it seems like it might be to much like those two stories I am here to tell you it is not. It gives me those warm fuzzy feelings because it has elements that remind me of those other series I love, but it has such a unique backstory ( one that I am so drawn into and needing more from) It has the magic school story, it has mystery and it has elements of witch hunt, romance and secrets. I cant wait to see where the story goes! I also started Little Monsters by Kara Thomas as an audiobook. I am not very far into it so I don’t have much to say thought wise, but I needed a mystery/thriller.

I am hoping to be able to start Home and Away by Candice Montgomery this weekend as it is the book I am reading for the traveling book group I am in. We all picked a book that we will read and annotate and then rotate them throughout the group doing the same thing with each book until we get our own book back. By that time it will have a bunch of annotations from everyone in the group! I am really excited about it and cant wait to keep you all update throughout the next months as we do this!

Friday Reads | Tackling ARCs

downthebookhole

Trying to find the balance between work, life and reading becomes even more of a struggle after having a week off to do whatever I wanted with no deadlines/timelines. Yesterday I finished my first book for #ARCAugust and I absolutely loved it! I have about 6 more ARCs I need to read within the next few months and need to get a move on with them.
I started reading Keeper of the Bees by Meg Kassel as my second ARC of August. It is the companion sequel to Kassel’s Black Birds of the Gallows, which I read late last year and enjoyed.
I am also listening to Charged by Jay Crownover, which is the second book in the Saints of Denver series.

After I finish Keeper of the Bees I hope to continue with the other ARCs I have which you can check out here!

Friday Reads {one day late} | Lazy Weekend Plans

downthebookhole

So this is coming a day late, oops. I was quite busy yesterday and didn’t get a chance to write a post (mostly due to the fact that my computer was dead).I am in the middle of a couple different books, which should be of no surprise to anyone who has read my posts before. Last weekend at the pool I started Turtles All The Way Down by John Green. Now if you have seen any of my reviews/posts that I have written about John Green before, I find a lot of his characters in the books pretentious and acting/speaking out of their age. With that being said Looking For Alaska by John Green is one of my favorite books. So I am giving TATWD a chance and so far I am enjoying it and love that their is a mystery type story line taking place. I am also continuing on with my Jay Crownover binge (its my goal to read all the books she has published by the end of this year) by listening to the audiobook of Charged, the second book in the Saints of Denver series, which is a spin off series of the Marked Men Series.

In other exciting news I have been working on beta reading a book written by a friend from the book community. I am about a third of the way through and hoping to get a lot of it read this weekend so I can give some feedback in order to help her with her journey to publishing her book!

After finishing these books I hope to continue on with the Saints of Denver series by listening to the audiobook of Riveted by Jay Crownover. I also really want to pick up The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken before the movie comes out on Aug 3rd. I know what you are thinking, I cannot believe I haven’t read this book or the rest of the trilogy yet either.

Friday Reads | In the Middle of A Series Binge

downthebookhole

I have been in a bit of a reading rut lately and the series that has pulled me out of that is the Marked Men Series by Jay Crownover. This past month I have finished 3 of the books via audiobook and I am currently listening to the last book in the series Asa by Jay Crownover. I am absolutely in love with this series and all of the characters. I cannot wait to continue on with the spin off series and get more of all the characters! I also started and have been flying through Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. I mean adult paranormal romance with werewolves, what could be better. I have been spending this evening cleaning my apartment, because it really needs it. I have been listening to Asa as I clean and plan on spending some time tonight and tomorrow working on Bitten!

Friday Reads | Holiday Weekend!

downthebookhole

I just finished Twisted Palace by Erin Watt and have to say I kind of saw that ending coming! Although that was the end of Ella and Reed’s story I really want to read the other books in the series, but I am going to take a break because I want to find them in physical copies. It has been quite the addictive series.

I received an ARC of Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf from Entangled Publishing and the book comes out on June 5th so I need to get reading it! It sounds so interesting and I have been craving a good fantasy book that I cannot wait to dive into it this weekend! I am also almost done listening to The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey, the second book in The 5th Wave trilogy. This trilogy very much fits into the category of trilogies that have come out in the past 10 years that have a good first book and slowly goes down from there. I am interested to see where it goes and what Yancey does with the story.

Friday Reads | First Weekend Off In Forever Edition!

downthebookhole

In true Ashley fashion I am currently reading so many books all at once. I have recently gotten hooked into The Royal Series by Erin Watt and have flown through the first 2 books. I am currently reading the last book in the trilogy of Ella and Reed, Twisted Palace by Erin Watt. These books are filled with drama, but are so addictive. I am also trying to catch up on reading books that have recently been made to movies, so I finished The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey and I am continuing on with listening to the audiobook of The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey. I also started Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs and The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks but have put them both slightly on hold. I hope to get a ton of reading done this weekend as well as catching up on my shows, and the second season of 13 Reasons Why. I want to try and catch up on some bloggy things this weekend, make a trip to the bookstore to unhaul some books and get this months #otspsecretsister box put together. There is a lot to do to keep me busy this weekend!
