DOUBLE FEATURE !
You get two for one in this Shatter Me Series Novella bind up!
“I could live here, I think. Live where gravity does not know my name. Here I am unbound, untethered by the chains of this life. I am a different body, a different shell, and my weight is carried by the hands of friends. So many nights I’ve wished I could fall asleep under this sheet.”
– Tahereh Mafi, Destroy Me
Since these are novellas I figured I would group them together. Destroy Me is from the perspective of Warner in the time after Juliette had shot him and got away with Adam. It allows you to see a side of Warner that is not seen by Juliette. It is great character development and an excellent idea by Mafi to incorporate these into the series.
“I’ve come to believe that the most dangerous man in the world is the one who feels no remorse. The one who never apologizes and therefore seeks no forgiveness. Because in the end it is our emotions that make us weak, not our actions.”
-Tahereh Mafi, Destroy Me
Fracture me is from the perspective of Adam during and after the battle with the Reestablishment. This novella really lets you into Adam’s life, from the perspective of Juliette he is always so quiet and not very spoken. Adam finally starts to become his own person and has also veered away from being a love sick puppy. The way Mafi goes into his relationship with his brother, James is also very touching. I greatly enjoyed that it explains what happens to everyone else during and after the battle.
The one thing that I did not like was that the whole beginning of the novella was like copied and pasted from Unravel Me. I understand that the story had to be connected, but there is a way to do that without copying and pasting. Tahereh Mafi does has an amazing way with words that I cannot deny though.
“…the bones inside of me fracture, little earthquakes breaking me apart.”
