When I am not reading, you can usually find me binge watching tv shows or movies. Getting lost in a fantasy world or a drama that is not your own life can really help with the day to day stresses of life, especially during a global pandemic. Many times when people create these posts or videos it is recommending books you may like based on other books. I thought it would be fun to recommend books based off of a tv show! If you like Yellowjackets you should check out these books!
If you haven’t yet checked out Yellowjackets, I highly recommend it! It is a kind of play off Lord of the Flies, but it layered with secrets and suspense mixed with survival. Just when you think you have figured out what is happening you are pointed in another direction. It is told both present day and flashbacks to what actually happened the year and a half a soccer team was stuck alone in the wilderness.
A unique psychological drama that had me wanting/needing to rewatching it once I finished it. If you like this show you should also watch The Wilds and check out my book recommendations for that show!
*A wildly talented high school girl soccer team becomes the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Canadian wilderness.*
5 Books To Read If You Like Yellowjackets
The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige
A sorority which is also a coven of witches, do I need to say more. This had that fun college vibe with secrets, drama and some unexpected twists. The coven must find out what is going on before something bad happens.
The Grace Year by Kim Liggett
A cross between the Handmaid’s Tale and the Hunger Games, The Grace Year is about how when girls turn 16 they are banished in order to expel the magic within them into the wild. With poachers waiting in the woods for them and the mass hysteria that causes the girls to turn on themselves this is a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and flying through the pages.
Wilder Girls by Rory Power
A group of girls are left on an island where their school is located after a Tox appears that causes body mutations. The girls must learn how to survive when no help is coming and everyone is slowly dying. It pushes them to the limits of morality. F/F representation *Contains body horror & gore*
Bunny by Mona Awad
Group think is a scary thing. I wasn’t able to finish this one, I think listening to it on audio just wasn’t working for me, but it was definitely a strange one. It gave a creepy vibe that the tv show also gives off. Like something is going on that maybe you are suppose to know about, but its just all a little crazy.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
An addictive, enchanting read that was atmospheric, a little spooky and mysterious with a sprinkle of revenge, witches and small town curses!
You get to see the fear and the hysteria work its way through the kids in this small town and see how much it leads their decisions. The lengths at which these individuals are willing to go to end the curse, even if that means possibly being wrong or hurting an innocent. It gives me that same vibe in Yellowjackets of hysteria that we just get a glimmer of in the flashbacks to when they were stuck in the wilderness.
Have you watched Yellowjackets? Or read any of these books? What are your thoughts?
