If You Like The Wilds…

When I am not reading, you can usually find me binge watching tv shows or movies. Getting lost in a fantasy world or a drama that is not your own life can really help with the day to day stresses of life, especially during a global pandemic.

Many times when people create these posts or videos it is recommending books you may like based on other books. I thought it would be fun to recommend books based off of a tv show! If you like The Wilds you should check out these books!

If you haven’t yet checked out The Wilds, I highly recommend it! It is modern day Lord of the Flies meets The Maze Runner with secrets, lies and the fight for survival and humanity.

*A group of teens must survive after a crash leaves them stranded. There’s just one twist to this thrilling drama – these girls did not end up on this island by accident.*

5 Books To Read If You Like The Wilds

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

A group of girls are left on an island where their school is located after a Tox appears that causes body mutations. The girls must learn how to survive when no help is coming and everyone is slowly dying. It pushes them to the limits of morality.  F/F representation *Contains body horror & gore*

Rules For Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall

In the faux-documentary style of The Blair Witch Project comes the campfire story of a missing girl, a vengeful ghost, and the girl who is determined to find her sister–at all costs.

The way this story is told, in an interview type method while hearing from the characters after the events is similar to the style on the tv show The Wilds.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

This wasn’t my favorite book, but definitely feel like it fits the theme.

This book gave off the feeling of a high tech, dystopian Lord of the Flies.  A group of boys are find themselves in a place called the Glades.  They must figure out how to survive and try to find a way out through the Maze.

The end of the movie version of this is what me make the recommendation. I felt like the way the show The Wilds ended is similar to how The Maze Runner ended!

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

I haven’t read this one, but have heard a lot about it and felt like the synopsis was similar to the show plot.

A group of beauty queens are on their way to the beach for a pageant when the plane crashes on a deserted island. It is said to be a spoofy/comedy version of Lord of the Flies .

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

A plane crashes on a deserted island leaving a group of schoolboys unsupervised, trying to survive while also exploring new found freedom. I first read this in high school and it was one that stuck with me as being both weird and sad.

Have you watched The Wilds? Or read any of these books? What are your thoughts?
