Reaction to TIME's 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time

Recently TIME presented their 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time and there is much to say about it. I have watched some others share their thoughts and wanted to share my own as well. Although I am a a huge fan of fantasy books, I will admit I am not an expert in fantasy books. I will state this our my opinions and I have my own biases. Not saying my opinions are right, just wanted to share my thoughts and start a discussion! Also I happen to share a lot of the same thoughts as Sam and Elliot which is why I included their videos below. So now onto my Reaction to TIME’s 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time!

Bookish Community Thoughts

Critiques

I am not going to talk about my thoughts on each book, but some overall thoughts on the list as a whole and some things I find peculiar.

I think they could have included more books and authors if they did not include more than one books from a series. In my opinion if you are going to include more than one books from a series than that alludes the series as a whole would be great. Then it should be list as the first book or as the series taking one spot.

I think it is odd that they had fantasy authors on the panel and all got their books included on the list. Not saying that they shouldn’t have or that they don’t deserve to be on that list. I just find it strange.

Some of the books on the list came out recently. Can they really be considered best of all time? I just have hesitations that these recent books although doing really well since their recent publication, will they stand the test of time?

Missing so many influential fantasy books in my opinion

Things I Loved

There are so many authors of color included in this list! I appreciate the diversity that is included, is it perfect…no, but it was an effort made. There is a wide variety of authors and books over the years.

Authors I Believe Belong On This List

Remember this is in my opinion the authors that should have been included. Some of these I have not yet read yet, but are so widely loved and talked about in the bookish community.

Robin Hobb

Rick Riordan

Susan Dennard

Sarah J. Maas

V.E. Schwab

Robert Jackson Bennett

Scott Lynch

Garth Nix

Brandon Mull
