Rediscovering the Art of Rereads

rediscovering the art of rereads

As everyone is (or at least should be) aware that this year was a rough one. Living alone is usually great for me most times, but with the pandemic it has become very difficult for me. Since March I have been working from home so I have little human interaction other than over video calls. That means for me who lives in a house and doesn’t like the silence because it makes me think there are burglars/kidnappers, I always have some sort of noise happening. I also spent a lot of time this summer going on walks to get some exercise and would put on an audiobook. One of my big goals this year was to be more intentional, so I discovered that instead of just listening to music I could be productive and listen to some books. Now some of you may be wondering, “okay Ashley, but why the title Rediscovering the Art of Reads?” Well let me explain it all to you!

Well my intention was for this to be a discussion starter. I feel like there is quite the divide between the book community on the art of rereading books! There are those who reread the same books/books all the time and those who would never consider it. Of course there are also those who fall somewhere in between.

So following my path down the road of being intentional, I wanted to read more books I own. Specifically complete more series I have left unfinished. The hardest part of that is I struggle with continuing with series. So some of the ones I own that I want to continue, its been a couple years since I read the previous book. In order to give a series a fighting chance I feel like I should reread the earlier books in the series. But rereading the books would mean I am not reading the other books I own. Therefore I have resorted to audiobooks to help with those rereads.

It has been so much fun discovering these worlds and books again. Listening them makes me notice other things I missed before and just adds a fun element to the reread. Usually I struggle listening to fantasy audiobooks. It is so much easier when you have already read the book before.

I am hoping to continue this rediscovery of rereads into 2021 to help meet my goals of reading and completing more series. Some I am hoping to reread and revisit in 2021 are The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi and Modern Faerie Tales Series by Holly Black!

Do you reread books? If you do are they because they are some favorites or because you want to continue with the series?
