Second Chance Summer { Mid-Way Reactions}

Untitled design-8

INITIAL THOUGHTS | Chapters 1-20

* WARNING this post will contain spoilers and probably too much personal information about Autumn @Kitty Cat Reads and I. So if you haven’t yet read Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson I would recommend closing your eyes/computer/tab or anything else that might ruin the book for you. But don’t worry we are only half-way through the book and you still have plenty of time to pick up the book and finish reading it with us during the month of August! *

♠ The book seems to drag, neither of us really read a lot of contemporary and so it is a little bit of an adjustment, but the whole first half of the book just was repetitive and didn’t really move forward.

♠ We feel that the big reveal of what went down between Taylor and Lucy is taking too long. Autumn says she is a little over it and doesn’t have the patience for child drama.

♠ Taylor is a very typical contemporary teenager, she doesn’t have any friends and such, but the nice thing is she doesn’t seem to complain about that a lot although she does love to complain about a lot of things.

♠ Autumn wishes she had her life and got to spend every summer in the Poconos.

♠ We are both very fond of Warren!

♠ She is so focused on her childhood drama when her father is dying.

♠ We thought this was going to be a more family based book, but it seems to be revolving around Taylor and her childhood drama.

QUESTIONS |

♠ What is with this girl that has been seen with Henry? (Autumn and I have a few theories)

♠ What is this big event that took place when they were twelve?

CHILDHOOD SUMMERS|

For this mid-way reaction we wanted to add something a little fun like we did for last months posts! We decided to stick with the theme of summer and talk about how we spent our childhood summers! I grew up and spent my childhood summers in  Northern Michigan. I live on a lake and during the summer you could always find me outside or in the water! I spent a lot of time camping and I would much rather be outside in the woods than in a hotel.

Much like me and to quote Autumn ” When I was 12 I was probably outside eating dirt”. We both enjoy the outdoors and growing up Autumn would spend parts of her summer in Northern Michigan at a place called Fireside. I have gone up with her a couple years ago and again this summer! I will link up [click here] the post she made about it earlier this summer because she is being bratty and telling me to write all of this!

I added a couple scenery pictures of the places we spent the summer (My lake and than Fireside) and also added a picture of Autumn and I from last summer when we went camping up in Mackinaw City!

  1. I had such similar thoughts about Second Chance Summer! I enjoyed reading about the family dynamic and thought that would be more of the books focus, but it turned out to be A LOT of pre-teen drama and it took forever for the “incident” to be revealed. I did enjoy some of the touching family moments at the end and I liked Henry and Taylor’s family, but I wish the book had focused more on the bigger issues of death and closure.

ALSO I love your spirit jerseys! I had no idea you both were affiliated, I have a spirit jersey in mint and I love it! 🙂

    1. I am interested to see what I think of the rest of the book. And thanks! I mean we are graduated and stuff, but both still love it and our spirit jerseys! Are you affiliated? If so which one?
