This weeks topic for Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl is: Standalone Books That Need A Sequel!
Sometimes I absolutely love reading standalone books because you read one book and you do not have to invest in a 10+ book series. But then on the other hand you only get so much. Once the book is done that is it, no more of the story, characters etc. It leaves you wanting more even if the author pulls off a nice wrap up ending/conclusion to the story. Now I am going to preface with this because it has happened to me before, as far as I am aware these do not have a sequel or a planned sequel.
Uncharted by Erin Cashman
I really enjoyed this book and thought that Cashman did a fantastic job building the world and putting the pieces together, but I wanted more. I definitely feel like there is room for her to expand the story/world. Like doing a prequel of the adults and what happened to get them to the point in which this story begins. Or following up with what happens after the conclusion of this book. I believe that Cashman created something so unique that could do so well with a sequel! You can check out my review of Uncharted!
Stain by A.G Howard
I recently finished this book and I need more! The ending was sufficient I guess and worked for a modern fairytale, but I think with the world and some of the actions that took place near the end, there is somewhere Howard could go with it! I know she wont, but this world is so creative and unique. Although a longer book and there were times that kind of dragged, I feel like I was left with unanswered questions or topics I wanted to know more about. The history of the world is touched on, but it intrigued me. I need more of Howards writing and Lyra’s story!
The Queen Underneath by Stacey Filak
This book needs/needed a second sequel for a different reason. I thought the concept of this book was so intriguing and parts of the book I really liked. I did not feel like it was executed well and maybe if it had a sequel, the story could have been handled better. I felt like the story was really rushed and that the author might feel like she had to fit so much in, within such a short amount of time. I guess I wish it had a sequel because it was a disappointment and I want it to have redemption. Check out my review of The Queen Underneath.
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
I have not been reading as much adult SFF lately, but I flew through this book when I read it. It involved time travel and was an action packed thriller. I mean how could you not want more of a story like that.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
This was such a cute and fast read book for me. I absolutely adored it and identified a lot with Cath. I wanted more and need more of the story. Even if nothing major happened in a sequel. With Rowell’s writing and and fun characters it would make for a wonderful book full of fandoms and cuteness.
Volition by Lily Paradis
I need more of Tate! I know that the story wrapped up and ended where it did but I think Tate has more to say. I need to know if there is a HEA, where is the boy? So many questions that I need a sequel. Check out my review of Volition!
On The Come Up by Angie Thomas
This one just came out so I am not going to say too much about it, but the way it ended…. I NEED TO KNOW!
Internment by Samira Ahmed
This is one that is not even out yet, but I feel like there is more to the story. I would love to see what else Ahmed has to say through Layla. You can check out my review of Internment.
By A Charm And A Curse by Jaime Questell
Not so much a sequel but definitely a companion novel. I think the way Questell wrote the story there was so many background stories that were intriguing and had some serious potential. I mean with a traveling carnival there are so many possibilities for some great characters and stories. And with some things that were revealed throughout this book, I believe it was the perfect setup for a continuation! Check out my review of By A Charm And A Curse !
Roseblood by A.G. Howard
How would I be a A.G Howard fan if I didn’t want more stories from her? The book took me a little longer to get into it, but it still was an amazing novel. Of course with such a imaginative and creative story, there is only so much you can fit into one book. Especially with retellings/inspired stories, once you tell the part that matches/parallels the other whats to say you cant take your creative liberties even further. I needed more of these characters and this world.
What are some standalone books that you believe needs a sequel ?

Loving these choices! I can’t decide if I’d want more from Dark Matter but I mean that book was five stars for me so why not!
I think I really just want more like it. I don’t know if it needs a sequel itself.
I’m really excited to read Stain now! Brilliant list.
Yay! You will have to let me know what you think after you read it!
I would for sure love to see a sequel to stain!

Yes, I loved By A Charm and A Curse and would love to see some companion novels of other characters in the book, especially Sidney!

As I was making the list that book popped out to me because they mention other things about the other individuals but never go into much detail. I feel like there is definitely potential!
Yeah they do-I never felt like we really got to know enough about the side characters, so it would be great if we got some companion novels to see what the circus was like before Emma arrived.
I haven’t read On the Come Up yet, so thanks for not spoiling it. So glad you enjoyed it.
My Top Ten Tuesday post.
I was trying to be as vague as possible !
I bet lots of people would like to see a sequel to Dark Matter. It’s such a popular book. Great list!
It would be fun to have a Fangirl sequel. I had Eleanor & Park on my list. Rainbow Rowell is good at leaving us wanting more.
Fangirl made my list this week too. I could definitely read more of them.
Sometimes open-ended stories make me want so much more! Then again, there’s always fanfiction.
Very true!
