8th Annual #TBTBSanta

This was my fourth year  participating  in Broke & Bookish Secret Santa! I had a total blast participating and I mean who doesn’t love giving and receiving presents! It was so much fun stalking the twitter feed following #TBTBSanta and seeing all the updates and sneak peeks of people presents. It is such a great thing for the book community and its crazy how many people participate. If you have never heard of this before I highly recommend you check out some of the blogs/twitter feed and make sure to keep your eyes open around this time next year! I cannot wait for my person to receive their gifts! I had so much fun shopping for her and really hope she enjoys everything I got her!

I was absolutely spoiled this year by Elisa @elisaintime! You should also check out her youtube videos! She did a beyond amazing job and I adored all of my gifts, the time she took on wrapping the presents and how spot on she was with the things I love! There were so many amazing books that I have been dying to read and a ton of goodies! Now on to all of the pictures!

The kittens were so interested in all of the pretty packages so I had to open the one that said kitties first!

I loved the detail that was put into the wrapping and the special notes that were included on the presents! I especially loved the burlap bag!

Top Ten Tuesday | Top Underrated Books I’ve Read

2015 BOOKS READ-5
This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Top Ten Underrated Books I’ve Read ! The original topic is to pick a genre, but I decided instead to go with an overall category from the books I have read. I also decided to go to goodreads and look at those books that I have read and enjoyed with under 5,000 ratings. These are all books that I believe deserve more attention and love!  This was a little hard to find because I feel like I haven’t branched out and read a lot of underrated books, so these aren’t all 5 stars, but each is unique and worth a read.

Scandalous Women: The Lives and Loves of History’s Most Notorious Women
by Elizabeth Kerri Mahon

8545967

I absolutely adored this book. It is a nonfiction that focuses on women of the past. The writing is real and witty. It was so much fun to read and made me want to read more not only by Mahon but about these Scandalous Women!

Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas

20649195

This was a unique and brilliant science fiction novel about two unlikely friends. I am a little bias about this book because it was written by a family friends, but I believe it deserves so much more attention because it is unlike anything I have ever read.

Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes

26074194

This was not the best book or even best Alice in Wonderland retelling I have read but it was quite enjoyable and I am interested to see what is to come next in the second book. This book focuses on the Queen of Hearts a story we have not heard much of before.

Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate

26240663

Seven Ways We Lie is an interesting high school drama story told from the perspective of seven different main characters. As a scandalous controversy plagues the school it seems to add more drama and conflict to the lives of these seven students. Each is dealing with their own struggles and consequences of their actions.

Volition by Lily Paradis

Volition Amazon (1)

Beautifully twisted…A novel that shocks and surprises, and is not your typical love story. A gripping read filled with complex characters, dark humor and lyrical writing that leaves you wanting more! Paradis produced a story that carried a lot of emotion that dealt with love, relationships, and the darkness that surrounds death and the mark it leaves on those who have escaped it.

Inspire by Cora Carmack

22824819

Overall I found this book to be unique and an interesting new adult paranormal romance novel. It definitely has a gripping ending that had me completely hooked and needing the next installment. It has some intense relationships layered with issues and secrets. I could have used some more mythology and paranormal aspects, but found what was presented to be intriguing. It is heavy on the romance and can feel a little insta loving at times but it works with the events of the story.

What are some great underrated books and authors that you absolutely love or deserve so much more attention?

Top Ten Tuesday|Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read For The First Time In 2016

2015 BOOKS READ-5

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read For The First Time In 2016. I haven’t read many books this year, therefore this list is kind of short.

♦ Victoria Schwab

3099544

I owe a few of her books but I have yet to read any others besides This Savage Song. I absolutely adored this book and loved Schwab’s writing. I am loving forward to reading more by her soon!

♥ Kaled Hosseini

569

I do not even know where to begin with this man. His book was brilliant, beautiful and emotional. I read Kite Runner and could not control my emotions. There is such a personal touch to the writing. I am making it my mission to read the rest of his published work in 2017.

♦ Brandon Sanderson

38550

This man is a writing phenomenon and a god of fantasy writing. This is another author I have heard nothing but amazing things about. I also want to work on reading all of his published works. There are so many and he puts out at least 1 a year!

What are the best new to you authors you read this year?

Top Ten Tuesday| Holiday Gift Guide For Newcomers to New Adult

2015 BOOKS READ-5

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Holiday Gift Guide for those trying to break into New Adult.

17900545

♦ Rule by Jay Crownover

This is a great book that starts off a series based on a group of friends and their relationships. The story of the relationship between Rule and Shaw was not an insta love or easy one. There was depth and lots of hot moments.

24954150

♦ Beautiful Broken Rules by Kimberly Lauren

This book has not only great romantic relationships but also great friendships and sibling relationships. It had a lot going on with college and football and followed the different characters lives.

18505845

♦ All Lined Up (Rusk University) by Cora Carmack

I have really enjoyed all of the books out in this series so far. It involves college and football and hot guys whats not to love! With this series much like the Marked Men series focuses on one relationship each book but you learn about other characters and they reappear throughout the series.

16096824

♦ A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This is a great transition into New Adult. I think it falls into the category between YA and NA. It is fantasy and a beautiful read. The writing is amazing and the story is even better. It has fae, hot guys and is a retelling of beauty and the beast.

I want it that way

♦ I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre

This book reminded me of my time in college and hit on so many aspects of life that happen during those year in school, it provided even more evidence that some guys with children are just too adorable (Dilf status!)

What books would you recommend for people holiday shopping?

Top Ten Tuesday|Top Ten Bookish Characters I Would Name My Cat After

2015 BOOKS READ-5

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Top Ten Bookish Characters I Would Name My Cat After! If you didn’t already know I am obsessed with my cat and love cats so much.

Dinah or Cheshire (Chess) from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
This has been one of my favorite books for like ever. I am almost as obsessed with this book as much as my cat so no wonder why I would pick to name my cat after it.

Tamlin or Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses
I love interesting names that are not used much in real life for individuals. And why would I not want to use some beautiful fictional men names!

Phury or Wrath from The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
– J.R Ward has some awesome names throughout her books. I think Phury and Wrath make cute little hell kitten names.

Wolf from Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles)
– I mean this is pretty self explanatory right. It makes so much sense to name a cute little kitten wolf!

Thorin from The Hobbit
 – If you haven’t noticed the pattern I love fierce names for little cats!

Katniss from The Hunger Games Trilogy
– It ironic, therefore the perfect name for a cat

All the names for The Lies of Locke Lamora
– This is one of my favorite fantasy books and I love all of the names

What book characters would you name your child/pet or car after?

Top Ten Tuesday| Netflix Binge Worthy Shows

Untitled design-9
This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Top Ten revolving around TV shows! I have been traveling a lot and haven’t had much time to catch up on new shows, but I have been doing a lot of netlix binging!

Stranger Things ♣ STRANGER THINGS (Netflix Original)

How could I not include this one on my list. Not only has it been blowing up the social media, but it is a creepy suspense filled show with just enough strange to keep you hooked. I loved that it was so much like a 70s/80s sci-fi.

Unknown

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK (Netflix Original)

This is also another go to for many people. The seasons cannot seem to come out soon enough. It filled with drama and is always referencing books which is awesome! It is a guilty pleasure that pulls you in.

Unknown

♣ THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSONS (Syfy)

This is one my friend had turned me onto. It is based in New Zealand and revolved around 4 brothers who are norse gods! The only downfall is the show sucks you in so bad and then is canceled after season 3 with no real ending (or at least a good enough ending for me).

images

♣ HAVEN (Syfy)

This is another Syfy hit in my mind. I have not heard much about this show from others, but it is one to check out. It is based on a small town that is being plagued by some strange and weird occurrences. It has drama, some hotties and troubles.

♣ GILMORE GIRLS

A complete classic! I have rewatched this series so many times and love it more and more each time. When I am doing work or getting ready it is usually on in the background.

Unknown

♣ PARKS AND RECREATION

If you ever need a good laugh and don’t have much time this is the show for you. The characters are amazing and the show gets better as you go. I can rewatch this a million times and it would still be so funny.

Unknown

♣ LAW AND ORDER: SVU

This is a show that never stops and is so addicting. I have spent the past few days watching this non-stop. There is something awful and horrible but at the same time so enthralling that I cant stop watching it.

Unknown-1

♣ CHARMED

This is also a classic in my opinion. Strong women who kick demons butts, what is better! There are demons, sister witches, family and relationship drama. It has the great early 90s clothing and so much humor.

Unknown

♣ SALEM

This has been my current obsession. I have been watching it any time I get a chance. I have always been so interested and intrigued by the Witch Trails and this is like The Crucible on steroids!

Unknown

♣ HEMLOCK GROVE (Netflix Original)

I have only watched the whole first season but the second season is out. It twisted and a little weird, but thrilling and dark.  I would only advise this show to those with strong stomachs.

What are your go to shows to binge?
