Synopsis:

War has come to the dragon sanctuaries of the world and nowhere is the danger more intense than at Wyrmroost. After a humiliating defeat at the hands of Kendra and Seth, Celebrant, King of Dragons, prepares to unleash his fury and take control of his native preserve. Armed with information from a new ally Ronodin, the dark unicorn Celebrant seeks a legendary talisman the dominion stone.

However, the powerful stone is protected by a cursed castle. Upon entering the castle fortress, an unyielding power strips all magical beings of their power and forces Celebrant to take his human avatar form. Kendra and Seth must enter the cursed castle as well. The race is on. Will the two young caretakers rally enough support from the creatures of Wyrmroost against the greatest threat the magical community has faced in ages? Can they foil Celebrant’s plan and beat him to the mighty dominion stone? Or will all hope be shattered by the wrath of the Dragon King?

The adventures, magic and the need to save the sanctuary continue in this crazy imaginative, well crafted world that Mull has developed. Well Mull did it yet again for like the 6th time, but he definitely took it to the next level. This was one of the best cliffhangers I have read in a book, but also the worst because I now have to wait until the release of the third book. This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I have to say was extremely thrilling.

“Life can be generous some days. But watch out—the price of living is pain. Same price as loving.”

The humor continues as we follow the beloved characters Kendra and Seth as they must face the Co-Caretaker, Celebrant the Dragon. As well as focusing on the cast of characters we have grown to know and love, Mull introduces some new characters that enhance the humor and adventures. As the war begins with the dragons, this book is full of suspense and has you on the edge of your seat literally until the last page. The thrill and action keep the story fast paced and was hard to put the book down and go to bed at night. I flew through this book and cannot believe I have to wait for the next book.

Mull takes us on a journey through more of the Wyrmroost Sanctuary that we haven’t seen before. With such vivid and graphic writing that opens up this magical world before your eyes and places you right into the world in which Kendra and Seth live. I enjoy Mull’s writing so much and think he really does so well at creating an imaginative action packed story that transports you and pulls you right into the story.

I am continually surprised with each new book Mull writes in this world because just when you think you have it all figured out he throws a curve ball. You would think by having read 6 other books in this world you would have been introduced to all of the magic and creatures by now. There were so many fun elements and mythical beings that Mull continues to throw into the mix and this book contained some of my favorite so far!

Overall, if you didnt already pick up on it from my rambling, repetitive review, I loved this sequel. Each book I love more and more and I’m so impressed with Mull’s ability to continue to write fun, imaginative stories with the characters I have come to love. He is always adding new surprises and twists that have me holding my breath and verbally laughing and screaming while I am reading. If you have not already read the Fablehaven series or first book in this new spin off series, 1st what are you doing reading this and 2nd you need to pick them up right away! You will not be disappointed! These fantasy stories are great and can be enjoyed by all ages.
