First Lines | February 2019

I decided that it would be fun to start a new feature; first lines to add the the wrap up of books I read every month. For me most of the time I pick up and look at books in the store it is the first lines that capture my attention and draw me in. It has always been intriguing to me the amount of thought that must go into those first words the author decides to but as the introduction to their work. The first lines are your first impression of the book.

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

” I hate having to dress like a man.”

Stain by A.G Howard

“There once was a humble land, surrounded by an ocean and afloat within its celestial sphere like an islet, where the sun and moon shared the sky. “

Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire

” The girls were never present for the entrance interview.”

Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire

“People who knew Chester and Serena Wolcott socially would have placed money on the idea that the couple would never choose to have children.”

Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

“Children have always tumbled down rabbit holes, fallen through mirrors, been swept away by unseasonal floods or carried off by tornadoes.”
