This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is The Top Ten Books That Were Hard For Me To Read. With this topic it will be a mix of different types of “hard to read”. I don’t really get bothered by language, material or violence. There are some that have been heavy with such things and it makes it sad and difficult to read because of that fact. Then there are some books that were hard to get through due to content, length or overall dissatisfaction with the book. Just because they are on this list that in no way means I disliked the book.
 
♠ Reason To Breathe by Rebecca Donovan – This book deals with abuse (both verbal and physical) Actual the whole series covers some hard and dark material. It was heartbreaking to read about.
♠ Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson- The main topic of this book is about eating disorders. In society today I feel like this is such a huge issue that many girls deal with everyday. I was deeply affected by this book and Anderson write so beautifully and really covers the dangers that revolve around this issue.
♠ Horns by Joe Hill- I am not finished with this book yet. I have had a really difficult time getting through this. Although it is quite graphic at times that is not the reason I have struggling through it. The book loses some momentum after the first 50 or so pages and hits a lull that I have found hard to push through.
♠ Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy- I am also not finished with this book. It is not that I don’t like the book. It is a very big and dense book that is hard to follow along because there are so many characters and so many stories interweaving that it really takes time and dedication which I have not had.
♠ Arena One by Morgan Rice- There were a lot of reasons this was a hard one for me to read. There were a lot of grammatical errors throughout the whole book that were really hard for me to keep reading. The story although interesting at first got confusing and seem jumbled and the end took a completely weird and different turn that was too much to handle. It was hard to get into the world and harder to read.
♠ Allegiant by Veronica Roth- I know a lot of people will be mad at me for this one, but this book was a big let down for me. Although I do not have a problem with dual perspectives and understand why it was done it frustrated me because the first two books are told in just Tris’s perspective.
♠ The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald- This is another one that many people might be really angry at me about. Now I am not saying it is a bad book and I did find it interesting. I just found that for how short it is, it took me an extremely long time to get through. I am not sure why, but the writing of the story proved difficult for me to get into.
♠ Dead River by Cyn Balog- This is one of those books that was a great disappointment. I was so intrigued when I read the short synopsis. I felt like the set up was there, but it lacked the follow through.
♠ Cut by Patricia McCormick-  This deals with cutting and mental illness. It is a tough issue to read about.
♠ Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre- There were parts of this book that deal with bullying and suicide. It was really hard to take at times and it was hard to read about what was being done to this girl that almost drove her to suicide.
