These books. There are parts that are so cheesy and unrealistic, but J.R Ward is an amazing writer. Only the second book in the series and I am so hooked. I am not a huge fan of romance novels at all, but Ward does so well with character and plot development. Although each book focuses on a relationship they all each continue with the war between the brotherhood and the lessers and the situations going on with all of the brothers. The books are such fast reads as it has an engaging plot and the switch between POV each chapter keeps you wanting more.

I love Rhage as a character and his relationship with Mary was so beautiful. He showed such dedication and really did everything for Mary. There were times I just wanted to smack Mary, but could understand where she was coming from. I was extremely happy with how this romance played out and thought it was perfect.  We get to learn so much more about each brother in this book and really start to get to know them.

So much is going on with the brotherhood and the plot thickens as more of the background is laid for the brotherhood and the lessers. I am definitely pulled in by the plot and liked how in this book there was more of a focus on what is going on rather than the romance.

Overall I think these books are really great guilty pleasure reads. There is a good storyline, lots of action and smoking hot vampires. There is also a lot of depth the the romances and they are not easy and perfect ones. These characters are damaged and flawed and I love that.

Halloween Recommendations | Vampires !

I figured since it is nearing Halloween I would do another book recommendation. If you haven’t seen my spooky books rec from earlier in the month you can check it out here! I decided to do this one on vampires since that is the category in which I have read the most books. Some of these might be familiar from my other post, but I figured I would explain and talk about the different types of vampires. I am also including some books I wasn’t the hugest fan for, but has a cool concept of vampires.

The evolution of vampires in literature has come a long way since the classic vampire novels such as Dracula and Carmilla. There are so many different explanations and myths created in the vampire trope. Some vampire drink blood or humans, but don’t kill them while others do. Some can be in daylight and even sparkle while others can only come out at night or burn up. In some cases you have to be bitten to be turned while in others you are born into being a vampire. I think because of Twilight (the movies) the sub-genre has gotten a bad rep , but I still really enjoy vampire books and have found that they are all very different.

I have to admit I was very hesitant to pick up and read this book. I have never really been big on romance books. I feel so many of them lack a plot and story line other than the relationship and the sexy times. Being a paranormal romance I thought it might provide more of what I want and enjoy, but I was nervous that it would be corny and ridiculous like Twilight because it is about vampires. This book completely surprised me and proved to be an absolutely amazing, action packed and well written novel.

The world that was created by Ward was so complex, detailed and flushed out. I absolutely loved the world and development of the vampire aspects. The vampire society has intricate hierarchy and workings. There are also slayers that are not like the normal slayers we think of when thinking vampires. The slayers are a created society of soulless beings that give up their souls to live longer and are geared to destroy the vampire community. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a selected group of male vampires that are there to protect their society and other civilian vampires. I did feel like it took awhile to get to the explanation and in depth understanding of the world and all aspects of it. You subtly learn about the world up to that point, but I felt there was a lot of stuff that was left unsaid and I might have been confused if I didn’t read through the glossary at the beginning of the book.

I really enjoyed that the book was written in multiple points of view, it really gave the story depth and was a driving force making the book a quick and captivating read. With the multiple povs you were introduced to many characters and learned the back story and information in more clarity because you were getting it from all sides. I also enjoyed that you learned and followed the story of all the characters and not just the main characters. I loved Beth! I thought she was a great strong female character that was independent and knew what she wanted. Her relationship with Wrath was fabulous and you really got sucked into their intense love. Wrath went through some great character development and growth. It doesn’t hurt that he was a strong and beautiful man. I fell for so many of the Black Dagger Brotherhood members. They are just my type of guy, tall, rugged, sexy filled with tattoos and personality. I don’t know which one I like the best. I was a huge fan of Rhage, but also really love Wrath! All of the BDB guys really made the book for me. It added a whole other aspect to the story than just a love story. There was action, suspense and drama.

Overall this was a unique and well developed world that allowed for an action packed story that was more than just a hot and steamy romance. It has amazing, hilarious, sassy, strong and sexy main characters and secondary characters. The story was complex and was so much more than I expected it to be. The book was gripping and had so many elements involved that I could not put the book down. It did have some steamy sexy times so this is definitely for mature audience, but there was more content than just sexy times. I can’t wait to pick up the next books so I can learn more about all the other guys and their love lives!

42899I think I have finally gotten out of my reading slump! I have recently read some fantastic books that were just what I needed to get me out of that horrible mood! I am currently reading Dark Lover by J.R. Ward and let me just say these men are so swoony! I am not very far in, but I am absolutely devouring it! It is dark, has vampires, hot men and some hot steamy scenes. What else do you need from a book? I am not sure I will be able to finish this before the end of the weekend because I am busy with work and it is also the So Behind Review-a-Thon this weekend so I have a lot of work to do in order to catch up on my reviews. I did create a TBR for this month and have set books out that I want to read this month, but after I finish Dark Lover I am not sure what I will be picking up because I have found that letting my mood decide is helping me stay out of the reading slump. There are a few books I have in mind, but we will see. I am also currently listening to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Although I really do want to read this book, I have been having a hard time focusing and getting through it so I might change it up and start listening to another audiobook, probably The Line by J.D Horn. It is a about witches in Savannah, Georgia.

What are your plans for the weekend?Anything fun or exciting happening ? What are you reading/planning on reading? I would love to hear from you!
