Vacation Down the Book Hole | 7/29-8/5

Today I set off with my parents for an 8 hour drive from NE to SD! I have the whole week off from work and a vacation bucket list of things I want to see and do in South Dakota. This was the first time going to the state! I plan to listen to an audiobook the whole ride since I get car sick and need a productive distraction. The audiobook I plan to listen to is To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, in preparation for the Netflix release of the book to movie later this month!

Well last night I was able to finish To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han and I absolutely loved it! I cannot wait for Netflix to release the movie. I am sure it is going to be really cute! Today we spent the day driving around Custer State Park and I got to see all sorts of awesome wildlife like Prairie Dogs and Buffalos! We also drove through some scary tunnels and roads, but it was so worth it! I also started listening to the audiobook of P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han, the second book in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series!

Another awesome day spent exploring South Dakota and checking things off my vacation bucket list! Teddy Roosevelt is my favorite president and it was awesome to see Mt. Rushmore today. I spent quite some time at the Mt. Rushmore bookstore looking at all of the books about Teddy, I really need to get one! My dad bought me an awesome bookmark with Mt. Rushmore and a quote by Teddy on it! I was able to get quite a bit read of the book I am beta reading. I also finished listening to P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han. I really enjoyed it and love the characters from this book. I was also really happy with the way the romance ended up and cant wait to read the last one in the series.

Today was the last check off my vacation bucket list, visiting the Badlands! It was absolutely breath taking. Climbing up into the mountain sides was a little scary, but so worth it! I also read a little bit of Turtles All The Way Down by John Green and finished the book I was beta reading! I got in over 10,000 steps today and sure did my fair share of sweating. So I spent some time in the camper, sitting in the air condition, listening to Charged by Jay Crownover, the second book in Saints of Denver Series.

Today was the last day we had before making the long drive all the way back to to NE. I have borrowed Puddin’ by Julie Murphy for the trip back tomorrow. We just hung around camp all day, I was going to go for a hike, but decided to sun bath in the heat and start my first read for #ARCAugust, Uncharted by Erin Cashman. I received this from Page Street Kids Publishing, it comes out in September! I got so caught up in this book I was able to read over 60% of it today.

I was sad to leave today. It was so nice to be away from work and be out in nature. But I get to go home to see my bratty cats and have an audiobook all ready to go for the long ride. I really enjoyed Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy and I am so excited to listen to Puddin’ by Julie Murphy.

The ride was a little rough because I was feeling very car sick. I was able to get through 75 % of Puddin’ and I absolutely adore it. I so relate to Millie and there were lots of parts that had me tearing up.

With 2 days left in vacation there is a lot I need to do to prep for the upcoming work week. I had big plans for today to clean, unpack and grocery shop. What really happened today, I got my last #otspsecretsister package from round 8 , I have watched the sixth season of Orange is the New Black and cuddled in bed with my kittens. I plan on spending the rest of the day on the new round of #otspsecretsister prep, reading more of Uncharted by Erin Cashman and blogging!

Today is my kittens Gotcha Day! I cannot believe we have been living here for over a year and that I have had my babies for a year! Well today was another lazy day. I slept in, made pancakes, watched Shameless and went grocery shopping at Sam’s Club. I finished listening to Puddin’ by Julie Murphy as I unloaded all of my bulk groceries (hoping I don’t have to go shopping for awhile). The trip to the store was exhausting that I plan on spending the rest of the day reading and lounging before having to go back to work tomorrow.

What have you read in the past week?

Weekend Down the Book Hole | 12/22-12/25

I thought it would be fun to do my long Christmas Weekend because I am planning on staying in all weekend, reading and blogging!

So today I worked from home, which was great and allowed me to get quite a bit of reading done today! I started prepping for my weekend holed up in my apartment working on my blog and reading. I have been working on my end of the year wrap ups and 2018 goals. Today I also decided that I want to do a Christmas Eve Read-A-Thon! As I was doing so stuff for work I started watching The Vampire Diaries, I have never read the books or watched the show before, but thought it was a good time to start. I drank way too much coffee as well today, but I was able to read close to 200 pages of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak! I have 70 pages left and plan on finishing it tomorrow!

I started this morning with a large cup of coffee and some blogging. While I have some time I want to get some post drafted and scheduled! I spent the majority of the day watching The Vampire Diaries and working on posts!

I spent the evening prepping for the 24hour read-a-thon I am going to do for Christmas Eve! I was able to clean some of my apartment while listening to some of Simon Vs.

I was also able to curl up on the couch with the kittens and finish The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Of course I had tears streaming down my face after I finished that beautifully written piece of art!

How we felt after we finished reading this book.

Christmas Eve Read-A-Thon preparations all set and ready for a day full of reading!

I made it like 2 hours past midnight before I passed out. The kittens woke me up sitting on my chest staring at my face. I was listening to some more of Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli as I was making coffee and a huge yummy breakfast! I need to check some social media things and prepare the living room for some more hours spent reading Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak.

I have hit the mid day sleepies. I need to take a break from reading and reenergize with some caffeine and food! I have been able to read almost 300 pages and its 2:00PM. I have finished a collection of cat poems and a fantasy short story. I am almost done with Simon Vs. and 100 pages into Seven Days of Us!

So I accidentally took a nap in the early evening. After waking up I made some dinner and rehydrated myself. Since then I have been reading away like crazy with the occasional social media and kitten breaks.

The book I am currently reading is Seven Days of Us  by Francesca Hornak. So far it is okay, there is drama that is of course helping me to keep moving forward. I love that it has a Christmas setting, but I am reminded just how much I dislike contemporary fiction. It just gets boring for me and is hard to read. Which is so funny because I love drama tv shows. I am just getting extremely annoyed with the characters and they are acting so dumb. I think sitting down and trying to read it all in one day was the best choice for this book because I feel like otherwise I might have given up on it because it would have just dragged. The chapters are quite short and I appreciate the multiple narrative it is definitely helping. I am currently 225 pages into this 355 page book with an hour left in the 24 hour Christmas Eve Read-A-Thon!

Started today by having my older brother FaceTime me at 1am his time as he was setting things up for my nieces and watching The Christmas Story! After we got off the phone I did a little more reading on the couch with the kittens!

I slept in a little bit today and then woke up to make myself a huge breakfast and then FaceTime the family! My big plans for the day are to watch Christmas movies and finish off all my snacks so I can get back on my healthy eating! I have watched The Grinch and I am now starting Meet Me In St. Louis, which is one of my favorite movies, especially at Christmastime!

I didn’t get around to much reading today, but I did watch a ton of Christmas movies, cuddled with the kittens and lounged enjoying my last day off for the weekend. I also spent quite a bit of time working on my blog and the Alice in Wonderland themed read-a-thon I will be hosting on my blog in Feb. for my 5 year blogiversary. I am really excited about the read-a-thon and hope that everyone joins in with me! Well I had a great weekend and it was a much needed break from life for awhile. I read a lot and got really excited about the new year. Although I had some good things happen in 2017 there was also a lot of shitty things. I need to rediscover myself again and make a fresh start. I have lots of goals for 2018 both bookish and personal. I think it is going to be a great, fun and busy year! Happy Holidays!

Week Down the Book Hole | 10/7-10/14

I thought it would be fun to do a week in my life in regards to mainly books, but also tv, movies and just overall life! I know I always like to know what people are doing and working on. Just something I am trying out. Who knows it may be horrible and no one will read it.

My to-do list today is beyond crazy, but like every Saturday all I want to do is relax after a crazy week at work. I cleaned my apartment, wrote my #otspsecretsister pen pals and have been working on some blog post. It ended up being a beautiful day although it started out yucky and rainy. I have been catching up on tv shows this morning as I blog, the new episodes of Grey’s, This is Us and season 7 of Shameless! I should go to the gym because I have not been in forever, but I think the kittens and I are just going to curl up, read and snuggle. Today I am reading Night Film by Marisha Pessl.

Today was another lazy day. Reading, tv watching and napping was all on the list of things to do. Although I have a lot I should be doing and places I wanted to go, I thought it best to just relax because work has been so crazy and this week is sure to be another hectic one. I am really loving Night Film by Marisha Pessl. It is dark and strange. I think that the incorporation of other media is such a nice touch to the overall story and makes it that much better. I am really interested to see where the story is going to go because it is nothing like I expected. I am not sure what I expected really to be honest. I finished season 7 of Shameless. I am so addicted to this show it is the perfect amount of drama to distract me from life.

This has been a crazy busy week at work. I was working crazy long hours and by the time I got home I was too exhausted to do much else. I did catch up on a lot of tv shows and spent Friday night reading and watching horror movies. Riverdale season 2 started this week!

I have had quite a busy Saturday. I am always so busy during the week that Saturday ends up being the day I spend cleaning and running errands. I went to the store and bought another bookcase today! I was hoping to get all of my boxes finally unpacked from moving almost 3 months ago. Unfortunately my love of books has made it difficult to get all those boxes unpacked. Although I bought another bookcase I still have 2 small boxes of books that do not have a home yet. I got a ton of “reading” done while I was putting the bookcase together and organizing books while listening to an audiobook. I am going to spend the rest of the night relaxing, possibly watching a movie and attempting to finish  the last 120 pages in Night Film by Marisha Pessl so that I can start fresh for The House Cup Reading Challenge that starts tomorrow! I also want to get some reading done since I will be deployed soon to assist with disaster relief for my job. I could be gone for up to a month or more and wont have any time to read or be able to take any books with me. It will definitely be tough to be without books for that long. And without my kittens. I am making sure to get a lot of kitten cuddles and sharing the love with my books before I leave.

Did you get any reading done this week? Watch any good movies or tv shows? Any exciting or interesting life news?

Let me know what you think of this post!

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower- Finished

That awkward stage in life where everything is confusing and new. A new crush every week, the confusions of sex and the other gender, growing up and truly finding yourself, those four years of high school really help to create the person you are. Filled with laughter and tears, there was never a dull moment in high school. Feeling all alone or surrounded by friends, ones mood and surroundings seemed to change in an instant.

“So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”

Chbosky, Stephen (2010-06-25). The Perks of Being a Wallflower (p. 211). Simon & Schuster, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

I feel like all of us go through some of what Charlie experienced. All of us of those moments of doubt, depression, and loneliness. Those times where we feel like no one understands what we are going through or why we do what we do. We even have those great times filled with laughter and happiness that create wonderful memories that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Even like Charlie, we all have/ had that teacher who cares too much, but we appreciate them for everything they did and how they helped guide us and figure out life one step at a time. So even though all our problems differ, I really fell like Chbosky captured the true essence of the teenage life, joy, self-doubt, angst, love, friendship and the feeling of that moment where we all really do feel INFINITE!!!
