Untitled design-9
This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is The Top Ten New-To-Me Authors Read in 2014. Since this past year I have really gotten back into reading it is going to be hard to narrow this down to 10. I have read some absolutely fantastic books from some phenomenal authors. I was not able to come up with 10 because there are so many that only 9 really stuck out to me but I really enjoyed so many different authors this year and for some of them I need to read more from them to really get a feel for their work. These are going to be in no specific order, but most will be ones I consider to be auto-buy authors or those I want to read all their works they already have out!
Richelle MeadI binge read the whole Vampire Academy series this year and absolutely loved it! I think Mead’s writing and story telling is fantastic. She developed some amazing characters and wrote one of my top book boyfriends! I can’t wait to start the Bloodline series and really want to get into her adult series, Age of X, Georgia Kincaid and Dark Swan!
Scott Lynch. If you are looking for some amazing fantasy books with world building that is on point and some fabulously woven stories packed with action and twist you need to check out the Gentleman Bastard series. I am really sad there is only three books out. I have read two of them and I am trying to put off the third so I don’t have to wait forever for the next one. I wish he had more books out because I would read whatever Lynch published.
Jennifer L. Armentrout. I own more of her books than I have read. I have read all the books out in the Dark Elements trilogy and have heard amazing stuff about all her other works! I love her writing style and her books are so easy to read and love! The fact that she published like 5 books this year and even some in her pen name J.Lynn is absolutely amazing. I love that she writes YA as well as New Adult!
Joe Abercrombie.  I have only read one book by Abercrombie, his new book in a YA series, but I absolutely love his writing. He is an amazing fantasy writer that puts a darker edge to his stories. I have heard his adult series is even darker and kind of depressing, but I can’t wait to read it. His world building is fantastic and he creates some unusual characters.
Gillian Flynn. Reading Flynn’s books definitely had me questioning her sanity. She fills her books with some complex characters that have major issues. Her stories are crafted beautifully with surprising twists and a gripping story that keeps you on edge. I only have one left to read that is published, she needs to publish more books!
J.R Ward.  Just looking at pictures of J.R. Ward how can you not think she is a badass! She writes some hot and steamy males and an intense, well developed world. Reading the first book in her Black Dagger Brotherhood series I was so surprised, it was not what I expected at all. Being an adult paranormal romance novel I thought it was going to be packed with sexy time. And although that was present there was actually a driving plot and lots of action. I will buy anything she writes although I have only read one book from her so far!
Tamora Pierce. I can’t believe that it took me so long to be introduced to Tamora Pierce. My friend Autumn @Kitty Cat Reads loves Pierce and it is one of her favorite authors and I am so glad she introduced me to these books. These books showcase some kickass females in a medieval fantasy setting with knights and sorcery. I wish I had these when growing up, but I still plan on reading all books in her Tortall world!
Marissa Meyer.  I will never be able to look at fairy retellings the same. Meyer has worked magic and developed some amazing stories that have elements from their inspiration, but are creative and packed with action based in a science fiction world that weaves together each book/fairy tale. She is truly a writing magician and I can’t wait to read her future books!
Neil Gaiman. Gaiman has created a big name for himself and I can’t believe it wasn’t until this year that I have read one of his books. It ended up being one of my favorites this year. His writing is beautiful and he is a fantastic author whose books I need more of in my life. I have never heard a bad thing about this man and his books.

Who are some of your top new-to-me authors that you read in 2014!
