I am not very big on reading holiday centric books, but have read a few and some that talk about the holidays at some point. I feel that there is also a certain type of book that just feels more witntery and like it should be read during and around the holiday season. So now onto Winter/ Holiday Reading Recommendations!

Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak

This book is about a family that hasn’t spent any time with each other in awhile. They gets stuck all together in a house durning Christmas. It is full of family drama and has a beautiful setting!

RoseBlood by A.G Howard

This retelling of Phantom of the Opera is perfect winter read. The world was amazing and had such a dark, haunting atmosphere that is perfect for the cozy winter season. It was a beautiful and heartbreaking story. This is definitely a unique book that cannot compare to anything else I have read. The incorporation of music and the small cameos from the original were nice touches. Although it was a retelling Howard did an amazing job creating a story all of its own. It caught me by surprised multiple times and threw in some interesting twists to the story. It left me in awe and completely satisfied.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

I found this to be a hauntingly beautiful story that was heartbreaking at times. But shows such a strong display of hope and kindness. The story is based during the era of WWII, but focuses on people and stories. I don’t believe that at least in my experience do not get enough attention. She brought to life the struggles of a few different teenagers whose lives intersect. They each come from a different background, struggle and each carrying their own secrets. It is the heavy topic and historical aspects that make it atmospheric . Also check out Sepetys other books!

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull

This is such a fun and adventurous experience filled with magical creatures and a hidden world. It is the perfect book to jump into to escape from the real world and the cold. While reading this book you get so lost in the world that Kendra and Seth discover. It is a perfect fantastical getaway!

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

A book about a bookstore and secrets make for a wonderful cozy read. What better to curl up with hiding from the cold than a book about books. It is full of secrets, mystery and a cute little old man with books included every step of the way. I don’t know about you but bookstores are my happy place. The thought of losing myself in a bookstore during the cold and winter months is perfection!

Paper Princess by Erin Watt

Sometimes there is nothing better than getting lost in a trashy, guilty pleasure teen melodrama romance. This drama filled book is loaded with twists and completely pulls you in. I would really recommend the whole series as a perfect winter binge.

Half A King by Joe Abercrombie

Half A King was an absolutely wonderful, unique and action packed fantasy story that I could not put down because the story never let up! I have to say that this book is pretty grim and has some dark and gruesome material , but it was not lacking in adventure, actions or some bad ass characters. In a coming of age story, Prince Yarvi must struggle and go far from home to use his knowledge and learn more about himself and life than he ever expected. Being looked down upon his whole life for his handicap, Yarvi must prove to all that he is more than half a man.
