I tried and really wanted to enjoy this book. I had a hard time with the first book as well. It is not the writing that I have a problem with. I am not exactly sure what it is, but the books just seem to bore me and have a few points in the story in which I really enjoy and get into as well as great characters.

This book picked up right where Angelfall left off, with Penryn waking up in the back of the truck in the aftermath of the attack that just happened. She is finally back with her mom and she got her sister, Paige back although she is not the girl she once used to be. The only thing that is now missing is Raffe and Penryn must explain to everyone why a “demon” saved her and how she was brought back to life. This book was not short in the action department, as Penryn continues to run for her life from the evil creations the angels made, the angels themselves and she must once again find Paige.

The thing that I really enjoyed in the book was the characters. Much like the first book I found Penryn to be a kickass female lead who can handle her own and doesn’t need a man to save her, although a certain angel can always come in handy! She is humorous in the face of everything that is happening and the banter between her and Raffe is a big winner for me. I was slightly annoyed that we had to wait until almost the end of the book to see them together and I think that was a big issue that played into my disappointment with this book. You continue to see Penryn grow and sacrifice so much for others and their safety. I also quite enjoyed the closer look into their past life and her mother as a character. I felt you got to see more of why her mother is the way she is and that even though she might be a little crazy, she is just as badass! I felt like this book addressed more of what is going on from the angels side and all that they have planned and are attempting to do. I didn’t feel like there was a lot of world building besides that. You do get to see a little bit more into what is going on in other parts of San Francisco and Susan Ee does a fabulous job with descriptions and details, I just felt like something was still missing for me. The book fell short of what I wanted.

Overall it was a good continuation with Penryn’s story. The interactions (although few) between Penryn and Raffe were great! It was action packed and I was never sure what was going to happen next. I am interested to see where the next book goes.
