2019 Reading Stats

I think it is fun to see a break down of books read in a year. So I put together some fun graphs and charts for my 2019 Reading Stats! I also did this last year and found it so much fun to look at the stats. Even the differences from one year to the next! You can check out my 2018 Reading Stats . As well to see how different my reading years were from type of books I read to how many I completed! I was able to complete 79 books (*as of 12/29) this year which is 11 more than last year! I am expecting to finish at least 1 more before the end of 2019!

This has been a constant the past few years. Especially with reading more romance type books this year. They are mainly written by women. So this comes as no surprise.

Life has been the same this year, if not even busier. Due to that I have had to find any way I can to read. That leads to a lot of audiobooks because I can listen while working, doing chores or even before I go to bed. You can check out my post about How I Read Audiobook! I also had the goal of reading more of my ebooks this year. With e-arcs and kindle unlimited, I have managed to fly through many ebooks.

This was something last year I was hoping to fix this year. I started and read books from even more series this year compared to the 30 from last year. But I only completed 5, which you can check out on my 2019 Series Challenge. Although I do want to focus more on series. I want to focus on completing ones I have started before I keep starting more. Look out for a post coming soon of the series I want to tackle in 2020!

With this year being crazy, but wanting to read books, I gravitated towards shorter books. This year I was able to read a couple of larger books. The goals was to read 6 Big Books (more than 500 pages) this year. I was able to read 4! I am going to continue to challenge myself with this in 2020. Like half of my owned books are chunkers.

This stat also makes me a little sad. The fact that I have so many books on my shelves at home that I didn’t get to this year. I have over 300 unread books on my bookshelves. I do love the library though. Even though I own so many books there is something about going to the library and picking up books to borrow. Also all of the audiobooks I listen to are from Overdrive and Hoopla. And Kindle Unlimited has added to my borrowing of books that are not on my shelves.

I feel like my reading taste has changed a little this year. I’ve been more drawn to the romance category, mainly I think because they are quick read for me. Not that I do not enjoy them because I do.

This is very different than last year. I am surprised that it is almost split 50/50. I need to versify my reading profile.

I would still love to see 1000 pages on this next year, like I had hope last year. But I did increase the longest book read for 2019!

I am happy that again I am skewed more towards the right. There were not many books I read this year that were low ratings. I do wish that I had more 5 star reads though.

I beat my goal of 2019 Beat the Backlist Challenge! I’m glad I read so many backlist books. I felt like I read a decent amount of new releases as well. I still own so many 2019 release I am hoping to read soon. Look for a post about those as well!

I remain pretty consistent with my reading. I do want to work on increasing the monthly number of books for 2020. I read less per month on average in 2019 than 2018. Which is surprising since I overall read more books in 2019.

I felt it would be fun to add this last one. I kept track of the books I purchased/gifted this year. Then I figured out the average spent on a book as well. Now I know I got a lot of books. I have a problem. Its something I want to work on in 2020.

Did you keep track of any of your reading stats? How many books did you read overall this year?
