Reflecting on 2019 Goals

There were a lot of different goals and challenges that I set out to accomplish in 2019. Some I excelled at and others I came up short. I recently posted about my 2019 Reading Stats and thought it would be fun to also post about reflecting on 2019 goals. On those things I set out to achieve this past year and the outcomes of how well I did or didn’t do.

« 12 Underrated Books I Want to Read in 2019

First off when I was working on the top part of this post I realized that there were some goals/challenges I made that I totally forgot about, so that is a great start! These last few months I have really been trying to work on focusing on my goals both in reading and life. I find that I waste so much time doing dumb things or even nothing at all. I have been working on not spending as much money on books. And also trying to read the books I own before I buy others. I currently own over 300 unread books and need to either give them to a new home or get around to reading them.

Below are a summary of those goals/challenges I set for myself and the results. If you would like to see more details check out the posts from above.

Read at least 50 books

I am currently at 79 books read!

Read 50 Books from TBR ( #beatthebacklist)

TBR: 31 BeattheBacklist: 59

Complete 10 Series

I have completed 3 this year and caught up to publication on 3 = 6 series completed.

Read More Underrated Books

I set a list of books that I was hoping to read that are underrated. Those that have under 5000 ratings on Goodreads. I have to admit I totally forgot about this and didn’t read any of these. This is something I want to work on in 2020.

Read at least 5 Non-Fiction/Classics

I have been failing miserably on this goal. I need to be better at planning out reading of nonfiction books. There are so many that I own that want to get around to reading.

Be more selective with ARCs

I think overall I tried really hard to do this. I need to stop requesting books on Netgalley until I can make sure to read and review them to get my ratio up to 80%.

Read at least 6 BIG books

{I am counting this as over 500 pages}.Check out my list of Big Books I want to read in 2019

I have completed 4 and 1 that was 4 pages short so I am counting it to equal 5 total! So I almost reached my goal. Though only one of those books was on the list of Big Books I wanted to read in 2019.

Read 3 Buy 1 – Book Banning

I failed completely at this challenge, seeing as I bought/gifted 153 books this year and read 79. So that means I should have only bought 26 books. Well at least I only spent less than $250 (which seems like a lot) in books this year which I think is pretty good because it means on average I spent $1.60 a book. Morale of the story is I need to stop visiting the library book sale and book store as much.

Read 12 E-Books

I have been reading so many e-books this year. That is due to kindle unlimited. I have read more books in the ebook format than physical form which is strange for me. Now the one downfall was this goal was created for the purpose of working on my Kindle TBR. I read 24 ebooks this year but of those only 9 of them were mine and a majority of those were ARC I received this year.

Complete 11 Spots in Romanceopoly

This was a new challenge this year that was created by some girls on youtube (details in post linked above) I thought it would be fun to participate and expand my reading since I never really read much romance. I was able to complete 12 spots but wish I could have done more. For 2020 they updated the prompts and changed things up some. I am going to participate again and hopefully with the help of Kindle unlimited will be able to read a lot more!

Have you reflected on 2019 Goals you set for yourself? How did you fare? Did you set any for 2020?
