Alien Tongues by Chloe Parker | Book Review

Publication Date: April 27 2021

Genre:  Adult,Sci-fi Alien Romance

Series: Cosmic Bonds

Synopsis:

Dr. Natalie Lewis may be an expert in alien languages, but there’s more to fluency than simple vocabulary.

When Natalie arrives on the alien planet of Logos to study an ancient artifact, she expects to be welcomed by her Lyran hosts with open arms. But not all Lyrans like humans, and a violent faction of the alien race thinks of human culture more like an infection to be eradicated at any cost.

Guardsman Kiran Va’shan is assigned to watch over Natalie as she conducts her research. From the moment they meet, he feels a sense of protectiveness toward her – an urge to be with her no matter the cost. Lyran legend speaks of a “cosmic bond” between two people that ties their fates together, but the archaic notion of fated mates flies in the face of Lyran culture, which emphasizes logic over love.

A relationship with Natalie is forbidden, but Kiran can’t help but fall further into her orbit.

Beyond all reason, Natalie and Kiran begin to explore their attraction, even as Lyran politics threaten to tear them apart. Physical relations between humans and Lyrans are strictly forbidden, but the two find it hard to resist their cosmic bond. As they’re drawn into a complex web of cultural relations and political turmoil, the starcrossed lovers fight for an impossible affair that is, somehow, destined to be.

Alien Tongues by Chloe Parker Book Review

“Gloomy and cool, just like Seattle. If Seattle had an underwater metro and purple trees.”

Are you a fan of alien romances? Alien Tongues by Chloe Parker is star crossed lovers, forbidden, alien bodyguard romance that has a unique setting and some steamy moments!

Nat travels to a different planet to study some artifacts with a unique language on it. Being a linguist and well versed in the language of the alien planet Logos. But not everyone is as excited as she is to her being on the planet and studying the artifact. Which leads to Kiran being assigned as her bodyguard. There is some politics at play and a course of events that keep you intrigued until the end! This book surprised me, I was not expecting such an interesting world and storyline. The use and focus on language added a fun element to the overall book.

” Presenting my research to a room full of scholars? Easy.

Getting dressed up and going to a bar? Terrifying. “

The romance was a slow burner and I highly enjoyed the longing and build up. There was such a fun element of the relationship because the hero is a virgin and the heroine explains what to do while also navigating the language difference. Kiran was just such an adorable love interest as he fought with himself internally about duty and following his heart. I enjoyed Natalies interactions with Kiran and he determination, but she fell a little flat as a character for me. It might be because I enjoyed reading from Kiran’s POV so much!

Although I enjoyed the world and I am all for an alien planet, I wanted more. I just didn’t get enough and fully get all the background I wanted from the past relationship between the two species. I still had questions I was wanting answered, but that just might be because it really intrigues me.

” My body is a notebook, and Kiran’s hand the pen that writes my pleasure.”

Overall I really enjoyed it and thought it was a fun read! There was a romance, some action and of course interstellar species! I thought the language element was a interesting take and added something to the story. I could just squish Kiran he was so sweet although he tried to come across as rough and tough. I did feel like the book ended quite abruptly and wanted some more explained. I am interested to see where this story will go and what will happen in the sequel.
