Books I Read in August 2020

It has gotten to the point where I have been so busy with work and trying to prioritize my time to enjoy those things I love. Because of that I have not been able to spend much time writing reviews for books that I am reading. I have a Novel Companion that I use to track my reading and there is a section for short reviews. I’m trying to be more intentional with my posting and figured I would put some of that together in a post, since I am already doing that. Its a goal that I want to be able to share more about the books I am reading other than just the new releases. So here goes month 4 for providing some mini reviews on the books I read throughout the month. I am really enjoying creating these posts as I am able to share my thoughts and start dialogue on the books I’ve read, but it doesn’t take a ton of my time. So here are some thoughts, first lines and mini reviews for the Books I Read in August 2020!

BOOKS READ

Thomas Wildus and the Wizard of Sumeria by J.M Bergen

The Elandrian Chronicles #2

This was such an enjoyable story! It was an action packed sequel following Thomas and friends as they continue to stop the evil afoot. I was constantly surprised and didn’t see the ending coming.I loved how many adults were involved in this story, you do not know see that much in MG and YA. Thomas and Enrique are so funny and there is just so much humor and fun throughout the whole story!

4/5

Callie’s Catastrophe by Ruby Dixon

Icehome #9

This one was another one that was just okay. There were parts of the story I was captivated by and parts I just skimmed and wanted to be over. Callie was a fun and feisty and I found M’Tok kind of boring. Other than Callie wanting nothing to do with M’Tok their relationship was just kind of blah. I overall enjoyed the world and how quick the read was.

3/5

You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson

This is a book I just want to squeeze! It was just so cute, adorable and absolutely joyful!  With so much going on in the world it is books like this that are just pure joy that everyone needs to read! This f/f relationship was too perfect! The book did cover some hard topics and I felt like Johnson did a fabulous job covering those topics while not making it overly sad or dark. It has me gushing and smiling the whole time. Liz was such a wonderful  character and her development was so well done.  It was full of a variety of side characters and has you rooting for that underdog! Just an overall cute and joy filled read!

5/5

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

Girl Meets Duke #1

This was my first historical romance read and I think it was such a great one to start with! Dare had me laughing the whole time, it was so witty and just humorous. One of the best parts was Emma and the group of other woman who are not your typical women in the high society. Them trying to come up with a pet name, was just too perfect! I really enjoyed the relationship between Emma and the Duke! It was wonderful watching them learn how to trust each other and falling in love!

4/5

The Blood King by Abigail Owen

Inferno Rising #2

An astounding second book in a hot, must read paranormal romance series. The Blood King is a steamy, action packed romance story filled with sass, dragon politics, epic battles and bad assery! There is nothing better than a feisty heroine who can handle herself paired with an arrogant and gruff dragon king hero!

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

This had everything I would want from a haunted house story. Sager had me guessing the whole time, just when I thought I knew what was going on, I was mistaken. It gave me chills and double checking my doors were locked at night. I loved the unreliable narrator. This book did not disappoint and Sager continues to surprise me.

5/5

Penny’s Protector by Ruby Dixon

Icehome #10

The one brought back my love of this world and series. I adored Penny and think she is the character I have related to the most, being a bigger girl who has the same fears/feelings I share. S’bren was such a cute, innocent and naive virgin hero. There relationship felt so different from the others we have seen, like there was more work and effort put into it. There was just so much fun with all of the adventuring. It ended with surprises that set up for some fun in the next book!

4/5

Have you read any of these books? What books did you read this month?
