Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi | Book Review

” Loneliness is a strange sort of thing                                                                                      It creeps up on you, quiet and still, sits by your side in the dark, strokes your hair as you sleep. It wraps itself around your bones, squeezing so tight you almost can’t breathe. It leaves lies in your heart, lies next to you at night, leaches the light out from every corner. It’s a constant companion, clasping your hand only to yank you down when you’re struggling to stand up.”

– Tahereh Mafi

Adam and Juliette are making a new life in Omega Point and learning about their powers. As she continues to struggle reigning in her abilities her and Adam grow further apart. When she learns that she makes him weak and can kill him. The Reestablishment has learned of their location and kidnapped some people from Omega Point. The people of Omega Point must now prepare to attack the Reestablishment and the Supreme. In the first meeting with the Supreme, Juliette almost kills hims and they manage to take Warner as a hostage. Warner professes his love for Juliette and she begins to see another side of him and fall for him.

In the midst of battle, the Supreme shoots Juliette, but Warner is able to get the healers to save her. Omega Point is at war losing members, the Supreme thinks Juliette is dead and Warner saved Juliette’s life and keeping it a secret.

Mafi works magic with her writing. The story and plot could use some work. Seeing as the 400+ pages mainly consisted of them in an underground compound, but it is beautifully written. I’m obsessed with the way she uses words and phrases sentences. I love how she continued the trend of striking out some of Juliette’s word. It allows you to see her thought process play out. This book has made me became a huge Warner fan. I am team Warner all the way! It is my belief that you want someone who will challenge you and make you a better person. That is what Warner does for Juliette.

I have a feeling that I am gonna be let down in the third book and that something will happen to Warner. If she ends up with Adam I will be so upset. My favorite chapter was 62. It was absolutely amazing and shocking and had everything that makes a great moment and twist in a romance. I re-read this like three times. I would suggest to pay attention to this if you ever read the book!

“And even when you’re ready to let go. When you’re ready to break free. When you’re ready to be brand-new. Loneliness is an old friend standing beside you in the mirror, looking you in the eye, challenging you to live your life without it. You can’t find the words to fight yourself, to fight the words screaming that you’re not enough never enough never ever enough.                                                                                                                         Loneliness is a bitter, wretched companion. “

Proxy by Alex London | Book Review

I thought this book was new and exciting! It is a sci-fi rendition of the Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman, I don’t know if this was the purpose, but they were really similar in my perspective. I also find it interesting that the main characters name is Syd! From the beginning I was enthralled and got lost in […]

The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda | Book Review

“Think of the Hunger Games with Vampires.” – Richelle Mead         I would not exactly agree with that statement. The Hunt is a dystopian style of literature and there is a “Hunt”. Which in a way is similar to the Hunger Games, but it is an entirely different set up and story. In a society […]

Waiting For The Barbarians by JM Coetzee | Book Review

I had to read this book for one of my Anthropology courses. I actually read it and quite enjoyed it. J.M.Coetzee created this “Empire”, which is supposed to be an imaginative society, but draws greatly on his South African roots. Like most Empires , this one is no different, exhibiting corruption, power-hungry military men and greed.  The Empire […]

Betwixt by Tara Bray Smith | Book Review

For Anyone Who Has Wandered BETWIXT: A place, a not-here, not-there world somewhere in between. I believe that Tara Bray Smith the author of Betwixt puts it so elegantly. “I liked the idea of there being an alternative current that hums and crackles just at the edge of our visible world. Now I realize it is a metaphor […]

Divergent by Veronica Roth | Book Review

” We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.” – Dauntless, Divergent by Veronica Roth The book Divergent follows the lead of many new trending books appearing on the “best-selling” to movie track. Roth does a fantastic job of presenting a “new” world in which society is divided […]
