Crave

Synopsis:

Everything feels off—especially me. I’ve returned to Katmere Academy, but I’m haunted by fragments of days I have no recollection of living and struggling to understand who, or what, I really am.

Just when I start to feel safe again, Hudson is back with a vengeance. He insists there are secrets I don’t know about, threatening to drive a wedge between Jaxon and me forever. But far worse enemies are at our doorstep.

The Circle is caught in a power play and the Vampire Court is trying to drag me out of my world and into theirs. The only thing Hudson and Jaxon agree on is that leaving Katmere would mean my certain death.

And not only am I fighting for my life, but now everyone else’s is at stake—unless we can defeat an unspeakable evil. All I know is that saving the people I love is going to require sacrifice.

Maybe more than I’m able to give.

*This contains spoilers for the first book in the series, Crave by Tracy Wolff*

This action packed series continuation did not disappoint as it was filled with angst, shocking revelations and a paranormal creature showdown!

“Sometimes life hands you more than a new hand of cards to play—it hands you a whole new deck, maybe even a whole new game.”

Although I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Crave, this one in my opinion was so much better! I know others would disagree with me, but it contained more of the tropes I enjoy and action that made the 700pg book fly by and hard to put down.

The book starts almost right where the first one left off, it is months after but Grace comes back and has no idea what happened or remember anything while she was away. We also get to find out what became of Hudson. We get to learn more about the school, the background story of more of the characters and the history of the paranormal characters.

“Gargoyles were created to keep the balance among the factions.”

We are given some insight to some of the characters and their feelings/emotions that are sure to continue to make appearances in the rest of the series. I found Jaxon to be so whiney and dumb caveman type for me in this book. I did not like it at all, he became so annoying, which made the ending that much better in my opinion. I know people have shared they don’t like that Wolff wrote him like that, and made it so we wouldn’t like him. But for me that is how I also felt about Edward Cullen, but yet Bella still ended up with him and everyone loved him. I am always for the sass and banter and that was what Grac-son had for me! Hudson was supportive of Grace and helped her find herself and believe in herself. Grace was still annoying at times as well, but she started to believe in herself and pick herself back up!

I loved some of the other characters we got to meet and learn about! The whole idea the competition and how it was all put together was like a mix of the Hunger Games and Quidditch!

“Death by ice cube is no heading for an obituary.”

Overall I thought this was a fun and quick (although it was 700 pages, it flew by) read. I know there are a lot of mixed feeling about this books because of what the author decided to do, but I am here for it. Grace fell into her immature tendencies again, but this time it was enough to put me off completely. If the first book was gushy like Twilight this was intense and badass like Hunger Games! I love the banter between Grace and Hudson and liked the development that actually went into the relationship of the two of them. The first book was good, but some elements came together too fast and are not to my liking, this book redeemed it for me! If you are a fan (or were a fan)of Twilight or Vampire Academy and missing the YA Vampires, you need to check out this series!
