This idea came to me 2 years ago and I never thought it would come together as great as it did. The amount of other book bloggers that participated and helped create some absolutely outstanding content. I was blown away with the creative idea that came out through February 2019. I wanted to start this year with a look back at the greatness that came from Fierce Female Reads February 2019 and also showcase some fun that was the Fierce Female Reads Fall Featurette !
What does “Fierce Female” mean to you?
The book community shared what they thought it meant to be a fierce female. Its great to see the similarities and differences and just really drives home that there is not one set definition to what qualifies someone as a fierce female. Everyone holds different values and perspectives and that doesn’t mean we don’t all have some fierceness inside us!
I think when most people think of a “fierce female” that they usually have to be a fighter or the chosen one to save their kingdom etc and don’t get me wrong, I love a female character who can fight but I wish this wouldn’t devalue other fierce females like Kady from Illuminae who is smart, sassy and a brilliant quick thinker, Starr Carter from The Hate You Give who is incredibly brave and determined to stand up for the truth and what she believes in, Hermione Granger, Elizabeth Bennet, Romy Silvers and Tessa Grey, these are just some of my all time favourite people fierce females.
A fierce female is a multifaceted woman who works to empower herself and empower others. She isn’t afraid to acknowledge her fear, her doubts and her insecurities; but she tries so hard to be brave and courageous. She works hard and is unflinching in the belief of her personal values. Although she may tremble in the face of her fear, she will do so with her head held high, ready to tackle the situation. The Fierce Female is within all of us. She basically slays everyday and takes names.
