I am a firm believe that the first book you read of the year set the tone for the rest of your reading year! I first made a post about this in 2018, First Read of 2018 | Discussion Post. When looking over it I still agree with many of the points I made for what qualities a book pick must have for the first read of the year. But the selection of my first read of 2021 is going to be slightly different.
I usually try to make sure I finish all books I am currently reading before the start of the new year. I found myself done on the 28th and couldn’t wait 4 days to start reading another book.

I just received a 2021 ARC that releases on the 5th of January and happens to be one of my anticipated releases. I had just got done with a fantasy book and was craving more fantasy. There was much debate with myself on whether I wanted to see how far I could get, which should be about more than halfway through and then put it on pause. But that seemed silly to do, when this books fits many of the qualities I believe a first book of the year should have. As well as will be a quick accomplishment for me to achieve right at the beginning of the year. I guess it could be considered cheating, but I make up my own rules so its not! Since I have already started it and I am enjoying it, its likely my first read of the year will be a highly rated one!

Do you have a process for picking your first read of a new year? Do you have a book picked as your first read of 2021?
