Reflecting on 2021 Reading Goals

Reflecting on 2021 Reading Goals

There were a lot of different goals and challenges that I set out to accomplish in 2021. Some I excelled at and others I came up short. I am creating a post about my 2021 Reading Stats and thought it would be fun to also post about reflecting on 2021 reading goals. On those things I set out to achieve this past year and the outcomes of how well I did or didn’t do.

Reflecting on 2021 Reading Goals

As I started to work on this post I realized what I wrote for my goal/challenge wrap up post for 2020 stood true for 2021 as well. So I figured I would just leave it the same 🙂

So here is a flashback to 2019 *again* (I did make some slight updates, but most of it is the same as it was from 2 years ago) – First off when I was working on the top part of this post I realized that there were some goals/challenges I made that I totally forgot about, so that is a great start! These last few months I have really been trying to work on focusing on my goals both in reading and life.

I find that I waste so much time doing dumb things or even nothing at all. But especially December was a wash for me because I was moving and starting a new job. I have been working on not spending as much money on books. And also trying to read the books I own before I buy others. I currently own over 700 unread books (both physical and ebook) and need to either give them to a new home or get around to reading them.

Now back to reflecting on 2021 reading goals! Below are a summary of those goals/challenges I set for myself and the results. If you would like to see more details check out the posts from above.

Read at least 70 books

Complete 10 Series

I started a lot of new series as well as worked on many. I only technically “finished” one. It was a series that still has books but they are spinoffs in my opinion. This is a huge goal for me in 2022.

Work On My Blog Content

I didn’t do as much as I was hoping to with my blog, but I did do a lot of post clean up and updating SEO.

Diversify My Reading

For this goal I didn’t do as well as I wanted to but I tried. I just got stuck in the habit of going to the same type of book. I was able to read more books with BIPOC characters and LGBTQ characters. I am hoping to continue to work on diversifying my reading in every aspect.

Start Writing A Book

I can say I attempted to start this LOL. I just didn’t have the time for it. I was so busy with work and so burnt out that when I wasn’t working it was hard to do anything else. Being an adult who lives alone means I do not have much free time at all.

Read at least 5 BIG books

{I am counting this as over 500 pages}.

I was able to read 2 books that were over 500 pages. This is a goal that makes me really sad I didn’t do better with because I wanted to read so many fantasy books and many of them have over 500 pages.

Tackle My TBR

Another goal I did not do nearly as well as I was hoping to in 2021. I did get around to some of the ebooks that have been hanging out on my kindle but only read about 30 books off my physical TBR :/

Read At Least 10 Underrated Books

I didn’t read any of the books I put on a list to read for underrated books. But I did read so many amazing underrated books this year. Soon I will be coming out with my top underrated reads of 2021.

21 Books in 2021

It is almost laughable that I continue to make these lists every year and throw it out the window as soon as I post it. I had all the hopes of reading these 21 books in 2021. And sadly I managed to read only one.

Here is to 2021 being a more successful year for accomplishing reading goals!

Did you do some reflecting on 2021 reading goals you set for yourself? How did you fare? Did you set any for 2022?
