September’s Book(s) Of The Month!

Sept

Hello September, how are you here already?! This month the Future Cat Ladies of America Book Club will be doing a bit of a throwback to a couple of the more awesome specimens of high school required reading in honor of everyone going back to school (everyone but us that is, haha).

Title: Brave New World
Author: Aldous Huxley
Goodreads | Barnes & Noble | Amazon

Synopsis: Far in the future, the World Controllers have created the ideal society. Through clever use of genetic engineering, brainwashing and recreational sex and drugs, all its members are happy consumers. Bernard Marx seems alone harbouring an ill-defined longing to break free. A visit to one of the few remaining Savage Reservations, where the old, imperfect life still continues, may be the cure for his distress…

Title: 1984
Author: George Orwell
Goodreads | Barnes & Noble | Amazon

Synopsis: While 1984 has come and gone, Orwell’s narrative is more timely that ever. 1984 presents a “negative utopia”, that is at once a startling and haunting vision of the world — so powerful that it’s completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the power of this novel, its hold on the imaginations of entire generations of readers, or the resiliency of its admonitions — a legacy that seems to grow, not lessen, with the passage of time.

We are going to be starting with Brave New World for the first two weeks and then continuing on with 1984! We also plan on doing a comparison and big sort of discussion thing towards the end of the month!

September 1st – 6th : Brave New World (Mid-way point)

September 7th-13th: Brave New World (finish)

September 14th-20th: 1984 (Mid-way)

September 21st-27th(30th): 1984 (finish)

We’ll also be tweeting as we read at @KittyCatReads and @downthebookhole using the hashtag #FCLABookClub if you’d like to join us there !

I hope some of you will join us in reading Brave New World and 1984 this month!  Our planned theme for October is of course Horror and monsters so if you have any suggestions or would like to join us next month that would be awesome!
