Fight Like A Girl Tag | YA Edition

No one tagged me, but I saw this and thought it would be fun to do! I am also all about strong females! If you do this leave me a link to your post in the comments.

THE RULES

  • Thank the person who tagged you.
  • Mention the creator Krysti at YA and Wine
  • Match at least one YA girl with each of the themes below.
  • Tag as many people as you like!
WARRIOR GIRLS

Alanna from Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce. She pretends to be her brother and goes off to get trained as a page. She eventually makes it to a knight!

GIRLS WHO FIGHT WITH THEIR MIND

Denna from Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst. She is brilliant and is able to use her brain to her advantage.

GIRLS WHO FIGHT WITH THEIR HEART

Elisa from The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. I think she is a very atypical heroine, but has so much compassion and heart.

GIRLS WHO ARE TRAINED FIGHTERS

Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. Rose will always be one of my favorite female heroines and she has some awesome fighting moves.

STRONG GIRLS OF COLOR

Rue from the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. She gave her life for Katniss and became a symbol.

GIRLS WHO FIGHT TO SURVIVE

Rose from Garden of Thorns by Amber Mitchell. Rose does everything she could in order to survive because others gave their life so she could.

GIRLS WHO ARE WEAPONS MASTERS

Katniss from the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I mean the way she uses that bow would make me run.

GIRLS WHO DON’T CONFORM TO GENDER ROLES

This one is a little hard. I do not think I have read enough books to have an answer for this.

GIRLS WITH KICK-BUTT MAGICAL POWERS

Vin from Misborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. The whole magic system in this trilogy is so awesome and Vin does some great things with her powers.

STRONG GIRLS IN CONTEMPORARY NOVELS

Reagan from Open Road Summer by Emery Lord. I love her! She stands up for herself and takes care of herself even though she has been through some stuff.

SERIOUSLY FIERCE GIRLS

Kate Harker from This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. Kate is such a kick ass female. She is also super sassy which I love.

Who are some of your favorite strong females?

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland | Book Tag

I first saw this on HardbackHoarder

♠ Alice : a quote from your favourite strong, female protagonist.

“Fire is catching and if we burn, you burn with us.”

Katniss Everdeen, Mockingjay

The White Rabbit: a book everyone has read that you were/are late to the party on.

Harry Potter Series, I still have to read 5-7

Down The Rabbit Hole: your favourite first book sentence.

“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”              – Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Drink Me: your favourite thing to drink while reading (tea, coffee, other)

Definitely coffee and sometimes hot chocolate, but I am a sucker for teavana tea

The Caterpillar: a character who gives good advice, and a character who needs it.

Whenever I think of good advice I think of Dumbledore. A character that needs advice is definitely Adrian Ivashkov

The Cheshire Cat: try and give a six word explanation of a book that confused you.

Modern fairy tale of childhood nostalgia – The Ocean At The End Of The Lane

The March Hare and Mad Hatter: a fictional friendship you wish you could join in on.

Locke Lamora and Jean from The Gentleman Bastard series

The Dormouse: a book that put you to sleep.

After Alice by Gregory Maguire

The Queen of Hearts: a book you would decree as compulsory reading.

There are so many. I have to say I would decree The Giver by Lois Lowry as a compulsory read.

The Mock Turtle:  a quote or passage from a book that made you cry.

“If I run or breathe too deep, the cheap stitches holding me together will snap, and all the stickiness inside will pour out and burn through the concrete.”
― Laurie Halse Anderson, Wintergirls

The Flowers: a pretty book cover.

The Walrus and The Carpenter: a character whose original appearance was deceptive.

I am not sure. I cannot think of anyone.

Unbirthdays: a book you would gladly read every day of the year.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol it never gets old for me

The White Knight: a character that everyone laughs at but who deserves better.

I cannot really think of one to answer this question either.

Let me know if you do this tag!

12 Days of Books Tag [2015]

Your text here-3

I decided that I wanted to create something fun for the holiday season and this is the tag that I created last year! I had done many tags since I have started book blogging and wanted to add to the fun of the season by creating my own! I thought this song was very fitting for a tag and hope everyone enjoys it! I worked really hard trying to come up with categories that fit into each section of the song, its corny and some of it is a stretch, but whatever!  If you decide to participate and do this tag I would love for you to leave your link so that I may see the choices you made.

On the first day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
A Partridge in a Pear Tree  : The Partridge Stood Alone In The Pear Tree? What is Your Favorite Stand Alone of 2015?

This is a hard one. I think I would have to say my favorite stand alone from this year was Volition by Lily Paradis. I read so many great stand alone books this year, but this one really stuck with me and was something I found relatable to an extent. It was beautiful and dark!

On the second day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Two Turtle Doves : Love Is In The Air, Who Is You OTP?

OTPs are always hard for me because I fall in love with the male characters and do not want to give them up. I have to say from this year my OTP would have to be Feyre and Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Although my unconventional one would have to be Jeb and Morpheus from the Splintered Trilogy by A.G Howard

On the third day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Three French Hens :  In The Spirit Of Threes, What Is The Best Trilogy Your Have Read?

I absolutely fell in love with the Splintered Trilogy by A.G Howard. I am usually weird about trilogies because I think they always fall apart at the second book and for most the third book just fails all expectations. That was not the case for these books. They were fantastic and everything I wanted from an Alice in Wonderland retelling!

On the fourth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Four Calling Birds : Since Series Usually Consist of Four or More Books What Is Your Favorite Series?

One of my goals for the next year is to complete more series. I have started so many and have yet to complete a great deal of them. I have to say though that so far in life my favorite is The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. It has a special place in my heart! I love Rose Hathaway, she is one kickass female and it so happens that Rose and Dimitri are one of my favorite OTP! Lately I have been wanting to reread this series so bad.

On the fifth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Five Golden Rings : One Ring To Rule Them All! Who is Your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

I am absolutely in love with Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas! He is everything you want from a bad boy! Another one for this list would have to be Morpheus from Splintered Trilogy by A.G Howard although I wouldn’t say he is much of a villain.

On the sixth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Six Geese a Laying : Creation Is A Beautiful Thing! What is Your Favorite World/World-Building?

Worlds and World-building are one of my favorite parts of books! I love new worlds and maps and seeing the authors imagination unfold to create a fantastic world along with a story. From this year I fell in love with the world created by A.G Howard, but I would have to say that Rae Carson did an amazing job in A Girl of Fire and Thorns as well as Sarah J. Maas in A Court of Thorns and Roses.

On the seventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Seven Swans a Swimming: Who Needs Seven Swans When All It Takes Is One Good Animal Sidekick To Make A Hero Rock! Who Is Your Favorite Animal Sidekick?

I am not sure this would be considered a sidekick, but I love Bambi from The Dark Elements Trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I mean what is not to love about a big demonic anaconda familiar!

On the eighth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eight Maids a Milking: Milk Is So 18th Century! Which Book or Series Takes Beverages/Food To A Whole New Level?

I cannot think of any books that fit this category for me so I am stealing my answer from last year! – For this there was no contest for me. Although I love some of the things from the Wizarding world, Scott Lynch creates an interesting assortment of food and beverages in his Gentleman Bastard Series! Shark, eel, and hybrid and magically created foods and many more develop an interesting element to his stories!

On the ninth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Nine Ladies Dancing : Dancing is Just One Skill of a Lady! Who is Your Favorite Kickass Female Lead?

There are a lot of awesome kickass females that are written about and being a female I definitely appreciate the females that are intelligent and can save themselves! My favorite from this year would have to be Kricket Hollowell from Under Different Stars by Amy A. Bartol !

On the tenth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Ten Lords a Leaping: Leaping Lords? How About Who Is Your Favorite Leading Lad?

There is no question about this! If you have not read The Martian by Andy Weir you need to right now! Not only is this book absolutely awesome, but Mark Watney is a hilarious male character. He is intelligent and super witty!

On the eleventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eleven Pipers Piping: Where Would We Be Without Music? What Is Your Favorite Book or Bookish Thing That Deals With Music? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I absolutely love when authors include playlists in their books either songs that match the books or what they listen to when they write. For me I have discovered that it is done in Ann Aguirre’s 2B Trilogy as well as Volition by Lily Paradis

On the twelfth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
12 Drummers Drumming: Drum Roll Please…………………….What Is Your Favorite Read of This Year?

I plan on making a list of my favorites from this year, I just have not gotten to it yet because I haven’t read many books this year. This is so hard because there are many different books that I loved this year for very different reasons. I think I would have to go with Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I just felt such a connection to it and it was a beautiful and adorable read that so many people can relate to!

I hope you participate in this tag and leave me links to your answers! Happy Holidays!

12 Days of Books Tag

Your text here-3

I decided that I wanted to create something fun for the holiday season! I have done many tags since I have started book blogging and wanted to add to the fun of the season by creating my own!

What is Your Favorite Stand Alone?

This is hard because I have quite a few favorite stand alone books. My favorite one from this year would have to be A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It was beautifully written, a touching story about a little boy and a monster and him overcoming some tough issues. It left me in tears! The artwork is also fantastic and beautifully dark!

On the second day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Two Turtle Doves : Love Is In The Air, Who Is You OTP?

OTPs are always hard for me because I fall in love with the male characters and do not want to give them up. This is also going to be a recent one because I am ever changing. I am not like those people who can keep the same favorites forever! My OTP is Layla and Roth from The Dark Elements Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout!

On the third day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Three French Hens :  In The Spirit Of Threes, What Is The Best Trilogy Your Have Read?

I do not have a trilogy that I have loved every part of because for me trilogies seem to fall apart either the second book has a bad case of the second book syndrome or the final book does not end in the way that I hoped it would. I really did enjoy the Shatter Me Trilogy  by Tahereh Mafi and also was a huge fan of the Breathing Trilogy by Rebecca Donavan, but I have to say so far my favorite would have to be The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins!

On the fourth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Four Calling Birds : Since Series Usually Consist of Four or More Books What Is Your Favorite Series?

I have not completed many series. I have started and I am in the middle of loads, but the completed list is very short! This year the two I completed I have a special place in my heart for both of them. Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce and The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead! They both have fantastic elements and I highly recommend both series!

On the fifth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Five Golden Rings : One Ring To Rule Them All! Who is Your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

Even though I do not consider him a villain at all and was in love with him from the beginning, Warner from the Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi! He is totally swoon worthy and has daddy issues.

There are so many great worlds that I have had an opportunity to experience, but as I have stated many times in this post my favorites change all the time. So I will list a few of my favorites! Of course the Wizarding World from Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling, Camorr and Tal Verrar from Gentleman Bastard Series by Scott Lynch, Totall by Tamora Pierce, The Shatter Sea from Half A King  by Joe Abercrombie and many more!

On the seventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Seven Swans a Swimming: Who Needs Seven Swans When All It Takes Is One Good Animal Sidekick To Make A Hero Rock! Who Is Your Favorite Animal Sidekick?

I am a total crazy cat lady and that made this an easy choice for me! Faithful from Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness Quartet is one feisty feline! Without Faithful, Alanna would have been in loads of trouble.

On the eighth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eight Maids a Milking: Milk Is So 18th Century! Which Book or Series Takes Beverages/Food To A Whole New Level?

For this there was no contest for me.

My favorite would have to be Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead! Not only is she kickass but is sassy as well!

On the tenth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Ten Lords a Leaping: Leaping Lords? How About Who Is Your Favorite Leading Lad?

I have not read many books from a male perspective. It doesn’t seem to be a thing that is done a lot, but I do have many fictional crushes and they tend to play a huge role in the book! My favorite leading lads would have to be the Raven boys from the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater! Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah all have very different personalities and quirks, but each of them is swoony and a fantastic lead in their own way!

On the eleventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eleven Pipers Piping: Where Would We Be Without Music? What Is Your Favorite Book or Bookish Thing That Deals With Music? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I do not believe I have read a book based solely on music besides The Soloist by Steve Lopez. This was an interesting book, but since I had to read it for school I did not enjoy it that much. I did just recently read I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre and the main characters talk about music and their favorite bands a lot. The author even included a playlist, which I loved because it adds an extra element to the overall experience of the book!

On the twelfth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
12 Drummers Drumming: Drum Roll Please…………………….What Is Your Favorite Read of This Year?

I plan on making a list of my favorites from this year and I haven’t decided if I will rank them or not. I always find that very difficult to do because each book is wonderful for a different reason! I have to say if I had to rank them The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman would be up there!

I hope you participate in this tag and leave me links to your answers! Happy Holidays!

TBR TAG

I was tagged for this by Mariam Misty and you can see her tag here!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I have a shelf on my Goodreads page which is pretty much up to date on all the books in my TBR pile.

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?
It is mostly print, but I have a good chunk of books and review books on my kindle.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Sometimes I plan it out if I am participating in a read-along or read-a-thon or by which review books I need to get through other than that its mood reading.

♠ A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?
True Believer by Nicolas Sparks (since 2007) in my personal shelves not goodreads etc.

♠ A book you recently added to your TBR?
The Bodies We Wear by Jeyn Roberts  (I won it in a giveaway)

♠ A book on your TBR strictly because of it’s beautiful cover?
I buy some books solely based on their cover, but I dont have any books that I have strictly just because of the cover, I do plan on reading them and I am interested in them.

♠ A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I would love to be able to read this but I dont know if it will ever happen.

♠ An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

Half the World by Joe Abercrombie

♠ A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?

So many it is hard to pick just one. I would have to say the biggest are the rest of the Harry Potter series (I just finished the 4th one) and the Percy Jackson Series.

♠ A book on your TBR that everyone recommends you?

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

♠ A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

All of them. I have just been in such a weird reading mood where I have been picking up too many books at once because I just want to read all of them NOW!

♠ How many books on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

For my TBR as in the books I want to read the number is 581. For my actual books I physically own and are unread the number is 203!

I would love to see your answers to these questions! Make sure to leave the link if you decide to do this!

Fictional Boyfriend Tag !

Your text here

I was tagged by Jackie over at She Reads She Blogs and  for the Fictional Boyfriends Tag! The tag was originated by RayKay Books and you can check it out on their youtube channel here. I have decided I am not going to explain my choices because that would end up making this post far too long and definitely too fangirly. If you would like an explanation for a certain choice just ask in the comments and I will share!

Most Romantic Boyfriend: Evan Matthews from the Breathing Series by Rebecca Donovan

The Dark and Moody Bad Boy with a Good Side: Wolf from the Lunar Chronicle Series by Marissa Meyer. (I dont think that he is totally that dark and moody but whatever)

♠ The Paranormal Boyfriend: ROTH from the Dark Elements Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Boyfriend You Want to Tame: None of them! I think they are all perfect the way they are and have reason already for me loving them why would I need to change them.

The Boy You Friend-zoned: Kenji from Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi. He is funny and everything you would want in a best friend, but not enough to be bf material.

Your Soulmate: Dimitri Belikov from the Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

♠ The Boyfriend You Would Elope With: Warner from the Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi

The Boyfriend You Would Venture Anywhere With: Gansey from the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

♠ The Boyfriend You Want to Be Stranded on a Desert Island With:  All of them! How am I suppose to choose just one? But I think Finnick would be good because he is nice to look at and is a good swimmer!

♠ The Most Bad Ass Boyfriend: Four from Divergent (and I mean only from Divergent) by Veronica Roth

Who are your book boyfriends that fit into these categories? I would love to know your answers so make sure to leave me your link!

Emoji Book Tag

I was tagged to do this by Dalal Reads . So thank you so much for tagging me and the nice words you have said about my blog 🙂 I love mixing it up every once in awhile to do a tag because 1.) they are fun and make me think and 2.) I feel like it allows people to learn more about me as a person, blogger and reader !

So what this tag is, is you picking your top 5 most used emojis and pairing them up with which book you think is best represented/most like that emoji, explain what you use the emoji for and why it is paired with that book. I will also state that I have some funny most used emojis and they are basically all used for when I am texting Autumn @ Kitty Cat Reads ! I also found them really hard to associate with books so I will try my best!  So here we go:

♠  Kitty Emoji

images

I usually only use this when texting Autumn. We call each other Kitten so it is usually referring to each other, our actual cats or when I think something is cute!

So the book that I would pair up with this is The Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce. Autumn is the one who told me to read them so when I think about those books I associate them with her. They is also a cat in the books and there are part that are super cute etc.

Love Struck Kitty Emoji

760-smiling-cat-face-with-heart-eyesr

I usually use this one when I am completely in love with something or super excited about something!

The book that I am going to pair up with this is the book that has recently WOW-ed me and that would be How We Fall by Kate Brauning. I was completely surprised by this book and ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. It created so many feels.

♠ Heart Emoji

Unknown-1

This is pretty self explanatory. This is to show my love towards someone or something.

This I am going to pair up with one of my favorite book that I can’t stop raving about so far this year! And that would be  A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. This was so emotional and heartbreaking and although it absolutely tore apart my heart it also found a big place in my heart!

♠ Smily Kitty Emoji

Unknown

This is the smily kitty emoji that is use for when I am happy or can’t stop smiling at something.

I would pair this up with the book that had me smiling the whole way through. It was funny and beautifully woven together that I just want everyone to read it and love it as much as I do and that is The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.

♠ Chicken Leg

images

I use this to talk about chicken, being hungry or as a reference of love to Autumn!

For this I am pairing it up with the book that left me craving for more. And I actually have two books for this that I have read recently that left me wanting more story and the sequel like yesterday! And those would be Hexed by Michelle Krys and Branded by Abi and Missy!

I hope you enjoyed my pairings and that they made a little sense. I am not going to tag anyone specifically, but if you want to do this make sure you that you leave you link to your post in my comments so I can’t check out what you choose to do!

The Book Blogger Test

book-blogger-test

What is better than tags and things about books! Thanks for tagging me to do this Booknerderie !

What are your top three book pet hates?

– Cover changes. This is like the absolute worse thing ever. Sometimes the cover changes are for the better, but then you have mismatching books.

– Weak main characters (especially female characters). Those annoying female protagonist that are whiney, depend on the male and can’t do anything for themselves is so annoying. Especially the dependence on males drives me crazy.

– Insta-love/love triangles. I find these are the most annoying thing EVER! Insta-love is not a realistic thing and its not how it works. Love triangles with the main focus on them are even worse than just the appearance and existence of the love triangle.

Describe your perfect reading spot

I mean I usually read in my bed or on the couch, but in the summer I love reading outside and in my hammock or out on the dock!

Tell us three book confessions

– I do buy some books based on their covers. I have even paid a little extra money to get a certain edition of the books for the sole purpose of liking the covers better.

– I spend at least 2-4 hours a day looking at bookish sites/watching booktube to find more books I want to read even though I have such a huge TBR.

– There are such things as Dinosaur Erotica and it scares me a little. I couldn’t ever read anything like it.

When was the last time you cried during a book?

I am going to be completely honest. I cry a lot during books. I think the last book I read that I cried was either Mortal Danger (I don’t really remember if I did with this one) and Branded.

How many books are on your bedside table?

I think that there are about 8 books just chilling on my bedside table. About 7 of them are just hanging out because I don’t have real bookcases and 1 is the one I am reading.

What is your favourite snack to eat while you’re reading?

I try not to eat anything while I am reading because I don’t want to get sticky fingers all over the books, but also because I normally read in bed. But sometimes I have coffee or iced tea and vanilla wafers.

Name three books you would recommend to everyone

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland- Lewis Carroll

The Lies of Locke Lamora- Scott Lynch

Looking For Alaska – John Green

Write how much books mean to you in just three words

Books for Life

What is your biggest reading secret?

I don’t think I have any reading secrets that I can think of..

I’m Tagging:

Krystal @ Books Are My Thing

Autumn @ Kitty Cat Reads (Although she is just starting out her blog. I am trying to help give her things to pos!)

Alex @ Alex in Bookland
