I first did a post like this in 2018, sharing 5 Underrated Books Published in 2018 ! I additionally continued last year, 5 Underrated Books Published in 2019. But decided to switch it up a little bit because of course all 5 of my Top 5 2019 Releases are underrated. Which means you should also check out all of those. Again this year as I began to put together my 5 Underrated Books Published in 2020, I found some where in my top of the year.
I had to split my top 2020 released books into the Top 5 2020 Young Adult Releases and Top 5 2020 Adult Releases ! Therefore I have selected other books I really enjoyed that are vastly underrated. All in which I think are important for people to check out!
These are all books that were published and read in 2020. They all have under 3,000 ratings. If you are looking for amazing books that are not over hyped and not talked about all over the internet these books are for you. These ones are such great hidden gems. I know for me I love reading books that not everyone is talking about so that I can form my own feelings and opinions, feel less pressure to love the book, but then be able to shout to everyone my love for those books!
Top 5 Underrated Books Published in 2020
The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett
F/F slow burn relationship, great LGBT rep and such a unique fantastical world all wrapped up in an intricately woven plot.
You are thrust into a world of secrets, lies and everyone with their own agenda. Ekata quickly gets thrown into a world she never wanted to be a part of in a role she was anything but prepared for. She must work to solve the mystery of her family’s aliment, prove her worth as the Grand Duke and find her voice all before her life is taken too.
This was witchy fall adorableness! Such a great story full of witchy fun, bravery and empowerment perfect for young readers!
Lowe has crafted a wonderful story of a young witch who loves animals, is a daydreamer, lacks confidence in her magic, but is a little different and trying to find herself. She watches as another young witch gets bullied and doesn’t speak up. She feels like she isn’t living up to her name. Now she must complete a project of Della Dupree who founded Ruthersfield Academy, Della travels back in time to speak to the witch who started it all.
Thomas Wildus and the Wizard of Sumeria by J.M Bergen
Bergen continued to surprise me with this fast paced fantasy sequel, that does not disappoint. It continues with action packed adventure, tons of humor and jokes as well as magical elements and fun! This is perfect for fans of A Wrinkle in Time and Fablehaven.
Overall this was an addicting, fast paced story that I could not put down. It had me on the edge of my seat, had quite a few shocks and surprises and of course dropped hints of whats to come. All of the characters were so great and had such fleshed out personalities and characteristics. The fighting and different magical abilities was tons of fun to learn about. And then you cannot forget about all of the humor and fun that Thomas and Enrique bring to the story!
This sapphic witchy read was full of diversity and personality. In this story an outcast lesbian is able to find her coven. There was such fun friendship relationships. It was a dark and unique read that was like The Heathers mixed with The Craft. It was bursting with LGBTQ+ representation! It was definitely a strange and unique read. There were twists and surprises and weird magic!
Bait N' Witch by Abigail Owen
Slow burn nanny/single dad romance with a lots of magic, messes and family love!
This one was definitely my favorite in the Brimestone INC series. I was living for Rowan and Greyson’s interactions and that we got to see it from both of their perspectives. This story was so much more than a romance, but about a family and the backstory to each of their lives and heartbreak.
