Reflecting on 2020 Reading Goals

reflecting on 2020 reading goals

There were a lot of different goals and challenges that I set out to accomplish in 2020. Some I excelled at and others I came up short. I am creating a post about my 2020 Reading Stats and thought it would be fun to also post about reflecting on 2020 reading goals. On those things I set out to achieve this past year and the outcomes of how well I did or didn’t do. You should also check out My Experience of Reading in 2020, which I talk on some interesting findings from this year.

20 Books In 2020

As I started to work on this post I realized what I wrote for my goal/challenge wrap up post for 2019 stood true for 2020 as well. So I figured I would just leave it the same 🙂

So here is a flashback to 2019- First off when I was working on the top part of this post I realized that there were some goals/challenges I made that I totally forgot about, so that is a great start! These last few months I have really been trying to work on focusing on my goals both in reading and life. I find that I waste so much time doing dumb things or even nothing at all. I have been working on not spending as much money on books. And also trying to read the books I own before I buy others. I currently own over 700 unread books (both physical and ebook) and need to either give them to a new home or get around to reading them.

Now back to reflecting on 2020 reading goals! Below are a summary of those goals/challenges I set for myself and the results. If you would like to see more details check out the posts from above.

2020 Bookish Bucket List

Read at least 65 books

2020 goodreads challenge

I am currently at 111 books read! (I am writing this post on 12/27 and have 4 days left in the year. I have at least one more book I will finish)

Complete 10 Series

I have completed 4 this year and caught up to publication on 6 = 10 series completed. I think this is the first year I have “compeleted” this goal. I am hoping next year to actually complete more series in their entirety. As far as the Series Slaying 2020 post I created, I did start a few and worked on some others but didn’t complete any of them.

Spend 2 Hours A Week Engaging on Social Media

Although I spent more than enough time this past year on social media being the year that it was, but I don’t think I spent enough time intentionally.

Read at least 5 BIG books

{I am counting this as over 500 pages}.

I have completed 4! So I almost reached my goal. Though only one of those books was on the list of Big Books I wanted to read in 2020.

Limit My Book Buying

I have to say I didn’t track as well as I did last year. Since I was not going to the bookstore and library book sale as much as previous years. I definitely bought less than previous years so I take that as a win!

Work On My Blog Content

I failed at this for sure. Up until this last month I did not post, create content or work on my blog in general as much as I had planned to at all.

Tackle My TBR

Another goal I did not do nearly as well as I was hoping to in 2020. I did get around to some of the ebooks that have been hanging out on my kindle but only read about 30 books off my physical TBR :/

Read At Least 15 Underrated Books

So the purpose of this goal was really geared towards those underrated books on my bookshelves and from the list of Underrated books to read in 2020. I was able to read 3 books from this list I created. But out of the 111 books I have read so far in 2020, a total of 60 of those books have under 5,000 ratings.

Post on Instagram 3 Times A Week

I lost track of this after the first couple of months of the year, but I did post on instagram a lot more and put more effort into it this past year. It helped that I was working from home so I had time to actually take pictures during the day other then left with only the weekends to take pictures.

Read 6 of My Best Friend’s Recommendations

I was able to read three books off the list of my best friends recommendations. Although it was not the 6 I initially set out to do, I enjoyed greatly the ones I read and found a new favorite! I am hoping to continue this in 2021 and finish the books off the list!

Romanceopoly Challenge

I recently post a wrap up for this challenge – Romanceopoly 2020 Challenge

20 Books in 2020

It is almost laughable that I continue to make these lists every year and throw it out the window as soon as I post it. I had all the hopes of reading these 20 books in 2020. And sadly I managed to read only one.

Here is to 2021 being a more successful year for accomplishing reading goals!

Did you do some reflecting on 2020 reading goals you set for yourself? How did you fare? Did you set any for 2021?

  1. Oooh I like that big book idea! And you did 4 out of 5, that’s awesome. 😀
I think you did pretty amazing in all of them, even though you didn’t meet them all. Who ever meets all of them? We all want so much!

    1. Haha thanks and I agree. I like setting goals to strive for but don’t beat myself up too much about not meeting them 🙂
