This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is Top Ten Books I Read in 2014. I have decided to alter it a little and make it into Top 14 of 2014. This will be the top 14 books I have read this year. They are going to be in no specific order because I find that it is too hard to rank the books when they are so different and I love them for different reasons. I will include the link to my review if I have one as well as a few words about what makes the books so great! (And yes although I did read some of the Harry Potter books for the first time this year everyone knows they are fantastic and I would rather focus on books that might not be known by others. I do love the Harry Potter books and think they are fantastic!) I read so many great books this year that made creating this list very difficult.

I actually enjoyed Scarlet more than Cinder and it completely sold me on the different-protagonists-for-each-book pattern (does that make sense?) and yet still remained integral to Cinder’s story. I just love this series.
I liked Scarlet more too which I didnt know would be possible because I really enjoyed Cinder! And I understand what you mean and that is one of my favorite parts about this series! The connections are fantastic !
I remember the Alanna books! Also started reading them way too late and didn’t even finish the series.. But I know that I would have LOOOVED them when I was younger because that was exactly what I loved to read!
I’m so glad that you loved Vampire Academy! It’s such a great series. Have you read any more of Flynn’s books? Dark Places is pretty epic. And I need to get a move on and read Locke Lamora!
I need to start Bloodlines soon! I have read Sharp Objects and really enjoyed it. And yes you have to read The Lies of Locke Lamora!
A Monster Calls makes my list this week as well. It’s such a beautiful book! <3 It looks like you've had a great year of reading!
Awesome list! I loved reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane and I wanted to read Scarlet next since I really enjoyed reading Cinder!!! Here’s my top 10 list!

Great list! I’m not surprised Scott Lynch and Joe Abercrombie is on this list! xD I’m surprised Branded is on the list; I’ve had it as an ARC for months and still not touched it even though I’ve only heard good things but seeing now that it’s on your top 14 list(!) maybe I should move it higher up the reading priorities list xD
I really enjoyed Branded. It was such an interesting concept and a well developed world.
A MONSTER CALLS. YES. I love that book so much. Jim Kay’s illustrations are phenomenal. I’m so happy to see this book on your list!
My TTT!
Ah, Gone Girl and The Lies of Locke Lamora were both on my list as well! (even though Locke Lamora made me both laugh and cry the whole time…) Also, I love Tamora Pierce, but I haven’t got round to reading her other stuff, even though I’ve heard it’s really good.
You only read Harry Potter this year! I’m so glad you liked it! I really want to read Lies of Locke Lamora, I asked for it for Christmas. 🙂 That’s why I don’t read Ness anymore, I don’t like to have my heart ripped out. I LOVED Cinder! It was one of my favorite books this year too! Great list! I want to read so many of these books!
Thanks! And I know I cant believe I only started reading Harry Potter this year.
Great list! The Lies of Locke Lamora and A Monster Calls both made my list as well. Scarlet, Half a King, and Gone Girl are all on my TBR.
I definitely understand leaving Harry Potter off so you can showcase other books, but I’m glad that you are reading them and enjoying them. It is such a great series.
Scott Lynch is great, isn’t he? I need to read Republic of Thieves, but I’ve been following the series since it started and I’m scared of having to wait ages for the next one!
My list.
I just finished Red Seas Under Red Skies recently and was planning on picking up Republic of Thieves, but also had those same feeling. I just wish we knew when the next one is set to come out!
A Monster Calls is my favorite book of all time! I really want to read Scarlet like I can’t even look at it. I’m waiting until I find a hardcover version of it. I have Cinder in hardcover so it would be weird if I had the second book in paperback. It would bother me so much.
A Monster Calls takes the top spot for me this year as well. I’ll admit that I wasn’t as reactive as other readers for the themes it delves into I still loved it regardless!
Cheers,

Awesome list! I really need to read the Gaiman book. It looks awesome.
