Bookish Naughty List | 2018 Blogmas Book Tag

I saw this over at Emily’s blog Tumbling into Wonderland Books and was originally created by Jenniely @ A Page of Jenniely

I also did this tag last year and you can see my post here!

So this tag, you are supposed to check off the bookish things that you are guilty of.

Received an ARC and not reviewed it √
I was a lot better at it this year then previous, but I received so many all at once and unfortunately was not able to get to them all.

  • Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley √
My netgalley feedback rating is sooo bad that I am not even going to say what it is.
  • Rated a book on goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)
I never promise a review on goodreads.
  • Folded down the page of a book
This makes me cringe. I have been borrowing some library books lately and my heart breaks a little when I see the pages folded down.
  • Accidentally spilled on a book √
I blame my cats for this because they like to knock over everything especially coffee.
  • DNF a book this year
This has happened officially once this year but there are also a few books I started and just havent fully decided if I am going to continue or not.
  • Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it
I have bought books because they are pretty, but never with no intention of reading them.
  • Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)
All of the time! Lately I have been choosing reading over chores, cleaning, showering, cooking etc
  • Skim read a book
Not since college and that was just with textbooks
  • Completely missed your Goodreads goal √
I am making a valiant effort to reach my goal, but I am a little ridiculous far off from my goal and setting unrealistic expectations for Dec. reading goals.
  • Borrowed a book and not returned it
I am sure this has happened. I know people have borrowed books from me and never returned them ( one was a personalized signed arc copy )
  • Broke a book buying ban
I have stopped putting myself on book buying bans because they will not work
  • Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about
ugh… yes and I need to get better at this. I have so many drafts started on both wordpress and my phone.
  • Wrote in a book you were reading √
I am participating in a traveling book club and we are annotating books, so I have been writing in the margins!
  • Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads
I am so good about adding them on goodreads!

The Holiday Drinks Book Tag | Blogmas 2018

I saw this post over on Emma’s Chapter and it was orignally posted on Browsing for Books by Cerys and thought it would make a great addition to my blogmas posts!

Ò Hot Chocolate – Recommend a Book That’s Sweet Through and Through

I struggled with this. I do not read cutsie books , I am more of a darker reader. I think the closest one would have to be To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.

Ò Peppermint Mocha – Recommend a Book With a Lot of Strong Emotions

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas put me on an emotional rollercoaster and has such strong and important topics.

Ò Apple Cider – Recommend a Book Full of Characters with Questionable Morals

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf is filled with characters that each have their own motives and although you like some more than others the ones you may like don’t have the best of intention or very good morals.

Ò Eggnog – Recommend a Book That’s Mostly Fun, With Just a Hint of Danger

Light Years by Kass Morgan was a surprising read for me this year. It definitely was full of fun, and adventure but had that impending danger feel throughout the book.

Ò Gingerbread Latte – Recommend a Book With a Lot of Action

For this one I have a couple or Middle Grade books I read this year that were fun reads, filled with mythical/magical creatures and lots of action!

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull and Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce

I tag everyone who reads this post on my blog to participate in this tag post!

12 Days of Books Tag| Blogmas 2018

I created this post a few years ago, you can check out the embarrassing 1st post here! I had done many tags since I have started book blogging and wanted to add to the fun of the season by creating my own! I thought this song was very fitting for a tag and hope everyone enjoys it! I worked really hard trying to come up with categories that fit into each section of the song, its corny and some of it is a stretch, but whatever!  If you decide to participate and do this tag I would love for you to leave your link so that I may see the choices you made. I have done this the past few years and I think this year was the easiest to come up with answers!

On the first day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
A Partridge in a Pear Tree  : The Partridge Stood Alone In The Pear Tree? What is Your Favorite Stand Alone of 2017?

I feel like I did not read a lot of Stand alone books this year and its hard because the book I want to say could totally be turned into another book, but I am going to use it anyways because as of right now I believe it is a stand alone.

Uncharted by Erin Cashman

On the second day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Two Turtle Doves : Love Is In The Air, Who Is You OTP?

OTPs are always hard for me because I end up shipping characters with myself. I have to say that there were a few this year though that I was rooting for from the beginning. This was a big one for me (this could be seen as a spoiler I guess so stop reading if you havent read Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

Lei & Wren

On the third day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Three French Hens :  In The Spirit Of Threes, What Is The Best Trilogy Your Have Read?

Going off the books I read this year I finished 2 trilogies and out of those 2 the better one was A Wicked Trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout!

On the fourth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Four Calling Birds : Since Series Usually Consist of Four or More Books What Is Your Favorite Series?

I finally finished the Marked Men Series by Jay Crownover this year and I adored it! I love all those men so much and wish I knew them all in real life.

On the fifth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Five Golden Rings : One Ring To Rule Them All! Who is Your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

This is a tough one, I feel like I didnt read a book with a real stand out villain, but I think I am going to have to go with Gwen from Phoenix Fire by SD Grimm

On the sixth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Six Geese a Laying : Creation Is A Beautiful Thing! What is Your Favorite World/World-Building?

I absolutely adored the world in both Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan and Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. I cant pick just one and this is my post so I can do what I want 🙂

On the seventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Seven Swans a Swimming: Who Needs Seven Swans When All It Takes Is One Good Animal Sidekick To Make A Hero Rock! Who Is Your Favorite Animal Sidekick?

All of the animals in Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce were the best (also really the only book I read that had animal sidekicks)

On the eighth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eight Maids a Milking: Milk Is So 18th Century! Which Book or Series Takes Beverages/Food To A Whole New Level?

The food in The Crowns of Croswald by D.E Night really sounded delicious, mostly all the pies!

On the ninth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Nine Ladies Dancing : Dancing is Just One Skill of a Lady! Who is Your Favorite Kickass Female Lead?

I read so many books with great female leads and could list a whole bunch but I will pick just one- Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

On the tenth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Ten Lords a Leaping: Leaping Lords? How About Who Is Your Favorite Leading Lad?

I feel like the majority of the books I read this year focused mostly on females unless they were romance/new adult books. I loved the Royal Boys from The Royal series by Erin Watt!

On the eleventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eleven Pipers Piping: Where Would We Be Without Music? What Is Your Favorite Book or Bookish Thing That Deals With Music? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

This is the only one I do not really have an answer for this year. Leah on the Offbeat by Beck Albertalli is the only one I remember referencing music.

On the twelfth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
12 Drummers Drumming: Drum Roll Please…………………….What Is Your Favorite Read of This Year?

Like any true book lover could pick just one. I will be posting my top reads of 2018 soon! I am going to be splitting it into top 2018 releases and top backlist reads!

I hope you participate in this tag and leave me links to your answers! Happy Holidays!

2018 Creatures of the Night | Book Tag

I originally did this tag a couple of years ago and first saw it as a booktube video by Katytastic. I also have a few other halloween/paranormal recommendations that you can check out as well! There is a Vampire book Rec , Top Ten Spooky Reads   , 2018 Halloween Season Reads Recs, Halloween Season Reading Guide. Some of these are going to be repeats because I havent read enough books that fit in those categories so I would love some recs for books that fall into some of those categories.

Vampires

Halfway to the Grave very much reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer at times. It takes the spin on bad and good vampires and has Cat who is half-vampire. It is an interesting take on the vampire genre and layered with tons of humor that make bloodsucking vampires even better!

Werewolves

I read Bitten this year and I am in love with this world of Werewoves! The “family” of werewolves and they way it moves down the line is interesting. I like this type of werewolves that are more of shapeshifters that those that only turn at the full moon.

Zombies

World_War_Z_book_coverI haven’t read that many zombie books and would so love some recs on some good zombie books! This is a repeat from the last time I did this tag.  I am going to have to go with my favorite book that I have read so far that is about zombies and that is World War Z by Max Brooks. I really want to read a book that focuses more on zombies and not like Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion, which I have already read. I thought World War Z was really interesting since it was all stories about different people and from people about their accounts with fight the zombies!

Ghosts

Within this past year I have read quite a few books that have featured or have the idea of ghost in them. The one that I have to say is one of my favorites so far is Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake! It was so good and I loved Anna as a character. I thought Blake did such a good job with her and made the story of Anna as a ghost really come to life and a little spooky.

Witch/Warlock/Spellcaster

I am so happy I read this book this year! I very much enjoyed it and it had vibes of Harry Potter with witches at a boarding school. In this world there is a group of witches that are seen as lesser and the main character is one of those. It was also a story full of mystery and a little bit of suspense.

Fairy/Fae

I havent read many Fairy/Fae books and one that I really enjoyed was A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, but one I read recently that I really enjoyed and had tons of humor and romance as well is Wicked by Jennifer L Armentrout.  With a group of going after and killing the fae loose in New Orleans, Ivy finds out secrets that change her life. I loved that there were so many different types of fae both good and bad!

Demons

18006096This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following my blog or stopping by recently. My favorite demon(s) come from The Dark Elements Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I am so in love with Roth, the crown prince of hell! He has some awesome familiar demon tattoos. He is sassy and badass! The demon world and how it is all set up is also interesting and has many different types of demons.

Angels

18324459-1So many of these tags I have seen done have picked Angelfall by Susan Ee for this and although I did love Raffe and that the angels are kind of evil/bad. I wasnt a huge fan of this book. For this I am choosing Lailah by Nikki Kelly. I loved the story and background to angels in this world. I thought it was so interesting that it isn’t considered Heaven but a different world and dimension. What the angels have to do to survive and how they are paired is also very unique!

Aliens

I haven’t read many alien books and it is something I should work on more! This one I read a couple years ago and think it is a very underrated book. I really enjoyed it and thought it did such a fantastic job building this world in which Kricket is taken to. I do not know if they really fit the category of aliens but they are from another world so I am saying it works!

Superpowered Humans

UnknownThe only books that I have read that I think fit into this category is the Shatter Me Trilogy by Tarereh Mafi. It has a very x-men feel and I loved learning about all the different powers and how they all worked!

♠ Other Mythical Creatures

  • Phoenix

This is the first book I have ever read about Phoenix and absolutely loved it! The whole incarnation aspect is so intriguing and I thought Grimm did a fantastic job developing a creating a world/story revolving around this magnificent creatures!

I was thinking of adding Dragons to this list, but than I realized I haven’t yet to really read a book focused on Dragons.

I am not tagging anyone, but if you decide to do this link you post in the comments I would love to see everyone elses answers and see some different books I should pick up and read!

Bookish Naughty List | Book Tag

I saw this over at Emily’s blog Tumbling into Wonderland Books and was originally created by Jenniely @ A Page of Jenniely

So this tag, you are supposed to check off the bookish things that you are guilty of.

  • Received an ARC and not reviewed it √
I feel like so many ARC I receive end up coming at the wrong time in my life and I get so busy and forget. It is one of my goals to resolve this problem in 2018.

HOW DID YOU DO ON THE BOOKISH NAUGHTY LIST? LET ME KNOW DOWN BELOW.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland | Book Tag

I first saw this on HardbackHoarder

♠ Alice : a quote from your favourite strong, female protagonist.

“Fire is catching and if we burn, you burn with us.”

Katniss Everdeen, Mockingjay

The White Rabbit: a book everyone has read that you were/are late to the party on.

Harry Potter Series, I still have to read 5-7

Down The Rabbit Hole: your favourite first book sentence.

“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”              – Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Drink Me: your favourite thing to drink while reading (tea, coffee, other)

Definitely coffee and sometimes hot chocolate, but I am a sucker for teavana tea

The Caterpillar: a character who gives good advice, and a character who needs it.

Whenever I think of good advice I think of Dumbledore. A character that needs advice is definitely Adrian Ivashkov

Modern fairy tale of childhood nostalgia – The Ocean At The End Of The Lane

The March Hare and Mad Hatter: a fictional friendship you wish you could join in on.

Locke Lamora and Jean from The Gentleman Bastard series

The Dormouse: a book that put you to sleep.

After Alice by Gregory Maguire

The Queen of Hearts: a book you would decree as compulsory reading.

There are so many. I have to say I would decree The Giver by Lois Lowry as a compulsory read.

The Mock Turtle:  a quote or passage from a book that made you cry.

“If I run or breathe too deep, the cheap stitches holding me together will snap, and all the stickiness inside will pour out and burn through the concrete.”
― Laurie Halse Anderson, Wintergirls

The Flowers: a pretty book cover.

The Walrus and The Carpenter: a character whose original appearance was deceptive.

I am not sure. I cannot think of anyone.

Unbirthdays: a book you would gladly read every day of the year.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol it never gets old for me

The White Knight: a character that everyone laughs at but who deserves better.

I cannot really think of one to answer this question either.

Let me know if you do this tag!

What are your favorite things about this show? or the books I listed?

This or That Book Tag

“THE RULES:

Mention the creator of the tag (Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks).
Thank the blogger who tagged you!
Choose one of the options, you don’t have to tell the reasons why you chose that but you can also do them if you want to.
Tag 10 other people to do this tag to spread the love!”

I was tagged by Pore Over The Pages  to complete the This or That Book Tag. The original tag was created by Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks. As the title suggests, you choose one of two options, this or that. Here we go!

1. READING ON THE COUCH OR ON THE BED?

I love reading in my bed, but when I read in my bed that results in me falling asleep.

2. FEMALE OR MALE MAIN CHARACTER?

I do enjoy reading books with male main characters, but seeing as I am a female it is always so much better to have a female kicking some butt and being awesome!

3. SWEET OR SALTY SNACKS WHILE READING?

I have a HUGE sweet tooth!

4. TRILOGIES OR QUARTETS?

I have always found that that trilogies seem to have horrible middle book syndrome. I find that I enjoy quartets or longer series because I always want more.

5. FIRST PERSON OR THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW?

I cannot chose. There are different things about both that I really enjoy

6. READING AT NIGHT OR IN THE MORNING?

I like to sleep in. I am a night owl and have a hard time sleeping sometimes so the reading helps me sleep

7. LIBRARIES OR BOOKSTORES?

Libraries are awesome and I wish I utilized them more, but there is nothing better than walking around and looking at all the new books.

8. BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR CRY?

I dont really laugh at books a lot. I find that books that can move me to tears it must be amazing

9. BLACK OR WHITE BOOK COVERS?

Black. White gets too dirty

10. CHARACTER OR PLOT DRIVEN?

Character development it everything. I mean it is important to have a moving plot but if the characters are flat then the story is ruined.

Tag, you’re it! If you want to complete this book tag, consider yourself tagged. Have fun and happy reading!
