Things I Love…

THINGS I LOVE ...-2
I have been thinking a lot lately about the things/components/characters etc that I love to find in books. There are those things that when you are reading a book and it contains those specific components you are completely sold/hooked on the book (if that makes sense). I thought it would be fun to share mine and find out some that other people love and enjoy.
♠ Sass, Sarcasm, Witty Banter
Nothing makes me happier than reading a book with characters that are all about the sass. I have a strong sassy and sarcastic personality. So when I read a book with a character that shares this quality it is like we are speaking the same language. It is even better when there are two characters (specifically love interests) that share witty banter. I like humor in relationships and when there is the teasing and back and forth between the two. It adds to the romance and make it more enjoyable and fun. Although I am a girl and suppose to love the fairy tale and romance, the lovey ,mushy gushy stuff can be too much and the sassy attitudes and witty banter really do it for me when talking about romance.
♠ Kick Ass Female Characters
I am a feminist. As much as I swoon over the strong male characters that come to the rescue, it is nice to see when the female character can hold her own and save herself. I think it is a very important message to send to girls. You can be kickass and totally awesome all on your own. You don’t need to be whiny and dependent on a man.
♠ Equal Give and Take Relationships
I have a hard time with romance, love stories and contemporary books because usually there is the whiny girl who needs (like cant live without) the male. I enjoy when they need each other and together make each other a stronger and better person. There is nothing wrong with a strong man who comes to the rescue and make sacrifices for the girl, but why cant she make some sacrifices and be the one to save the man every once in awhile.
♠ Swoony Old Fashioned Gentlemen
I am a sucker for a well done male character. My all time favorite are the old fashioned gentlemen though. Those ones who make sacrifices and will do anything for/to protect etc for the female are just amazing. Its the young girl in me that is hopefully awaiting for prince charming.
♠ Awesome Friendships
Of course I enjoy romantical relationships in books, but sometimes I like those books that mainly focus on a friendship relationship. It is a very different dynamic, but still can make for a beautiful story. It is amazing to see to what lengths a friend will go to for each other. It is also great when they have a teasing relationship.
♠ Funny Sidekicks
Every book needs the comic relief. This goes along with my love of sass and sarcasm, but when it is in the best friend or sidekick it is always fantastic. The best example of this is Kenji from the Shatter Me trilogy. I like to laugh in books even if the book is of a darker type.
♠ Dark and Twisted Material/Feel
I know this makes me seem crazy and a tad morbid, but I just have a problem with the happy, no issues, perfect life/relationship fairy tale books. I like to know that there are other cynics and pessimists! I don’t really know why else I have a huge draw to the dark and twisted but if its in a book I will probably love it!
♠ World Building
Even if a book has underdeveloped characters, I can be sold on the book if the world building is out of this world fantastic. I like complex well thought out and detailed worlds. The ones where you feel like you are there and can see/hear/smell everything the characters are experiencing.

What are some qualities you love to find in books?

  1. I love all these things especially witty banter! To me, the best part of a book is if the author can include equally funny and serious moments 😀
