April 2019 | First Lines

I decided that it would be fun to start a new feature; first lines to add the the wrap up of books I read every month. For me most of the time I pick up and look at books in the store it is the first lines that capture my attention and draw me in. It has always been intriguing to me the amount of thought that must go into those first words the author decides to but as the introduction to their work. The first lines are your first impression of the book.

Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl

” I hadn’t spoken to Whitley Lansing – or any of them- in over a year”

Wrath of the Dragon King by Brandon Mull

“The red-maned dragon coiled in the courtyard , rippling scales flashing in the sunlight, tail swishing lazily.”

Say You’ll Remember Me by Katie McGarry

” ‘Everyone says you have a blank slate.'”

You Must Not Miss by Katrina Leno

” The smell of chlorine had always reminded Magpie Lewis of summer, and summer in turn reminded her of a much happier time, a time before her life had gone completely wrong.”

The Raven’s Tale by Cat Winters

“Good Morning, ladies and gentleman!”

Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs

“Like most people who own their own businesses, I work long hours that start early in the morning.”
