Books Best Friend | Reading Nook Edition

I have decided to do a series on my blog dedicated to where to find those all amazing things that book lovers need in their life or things based on books that we love. I am always spending time lost on the internet searching for cute bookish things and I thought I would make it a little easier for others and share the cute things that I have found. My first post was dedicated to those things that I would not be able to read a book without. This post is one I have been wanting to do for awhile and have been thinking about a lot because I am just about to move and get a new apartment. I was reached out to pair up with Arhouse to create a post about my ideal reading nook!

Belle Style Shelves

Being an avid reader and book lover I have always been envious of Belle and that beautiful library she is presented. I am big on a modern antiqued look. There is such a classic and grandeur look about a huge bookcase with a rolling ladder. Arhouse has this beautiful version of this bookcase as well as a smaller more modern style.

Each one has a slightly different look and vibe, but in the end they fit that category of having an amazing bookcase with a ladder.

Athens Modular Library– $3,770.00
Colton 34″ Library – $1,449.00

♣ Cozy Seating

Comfy big chairs or couches are a must for a reading nook. I need somewhere to curl up with my awesome read.

Clementina Arm Chair – $298.99

Newark Rattan Papasan Chair– $155.99

{below}: Zack Mid-Century Fabric Loveseat – $354.99

♣Built Ins

I have always wanted big bay windows with the little book nook with shelves and sitting built in.

What are some of your must haves for a reading nook?

7 Qualities We Love About Book Bad Boys

This month Samantha @The Rambling Book Junkie and I are reading Built by Jay Crownover.  If you have read any of Crownover’s books you know she writes  amazing bad boy characters! At least for me, I always fall in love with the bad boys in books. So what is it that makes us fall head over heels for these dreamy bad boys when we know better.

There is nothing sexier than confidence. It makes the character authentic and so very real. Who doesn’t love a bad boy with a rebellious streak and the strong confidence, not feeling the need to “fit in”.

It all goes hand in hand. Bad boys are usually on top of their wit game. Throwing around the sass and sarcasm like nobody’s business. Layered on top of the teasing and snarky nature they all full of charm that just oozes out of their being. It is hard not to fall hard and fast for a boy that can intelligently charm the pants off of you.

On top of being honest down to their core, no matter how much it might hurt they also don’t try to be someone they aren’t. They tell it like it is and that is part of the reason we are so drawn to them. It is refreshing and invigorating to have such honesty thrown at you.

Rugged, a man’s man, strong and protective. Although I am a feminist there is always something about a man who is protective, dominant, and aggressive to a point. It usually means he will go after what he wants with a strong unwavering passion. There will be no mistaking how he feels about you and what he is willing to do to have and protect you.

Independence also transfers over to being rebellious and a bit unattainable. He likes to do his own thing and is completely his own person. This causes him to be unique and one of a kind with a little fun flare that is sure to spice up life.

Spontaneity is not in short supply when it comes to a bad boy. He does what he wants and you never know what to expect. It makes it fun and exciting and filled with danger and adventure. He will push you out of your comfort zone and make you grab life by the balls!

Bad boys are always driven by something. Whatever that may be fills them with drive and passion beyond compare. It also usually shows their soft side and their deep loyalty. It just takes a little work to get to it, but is not a task you will regret!

What are some qualities that make you  weak in the knees, lightheaded and completely love struck over book bad boys?

Make sure you also check out Samantha’s playlist for the Jay Crownover books!

Things I Love…

I have fallen into the New Adult bandwagon. I am all about it and devour new adult books so fast. It is a newer genre that has appeared in the book community and is one I am really grateful for.  NA bridges the gap between YA and Adult books, which is typically more geared towards romance, but has its fair share of paranormal options. Cora Carmack has put into words better than I could what this new genre is all about…

“These could not be a better way to describe the turbulent years between adolescence and adulthood, that terrifying in-between. Whether you’re at college or moving out on your own or working your first full time job—your life seems to change radically overnight. And yet for most people in that age group (18-25ish), you’re still not completely on your own. Your parents are still a large part of your life. You’re not a child anymore, but you’re also not quite an adult. You may call yourself an adult (as will others), but deep down in side you are petrified because you don’t feel like one.
At least, that’s how it was for me. It really did feel like my world was starting from scratch. I was searching for my perfect fit in this wide world. I once likened the feeling to leaving behind a comfortable pair of old shoes for new ones that fit a bit better. It’s not that you want to stay with the old shoes that have become worn out and are a bit too snug, but breaking in those new shoes takes time and can be painful. That is what New Adult books are about to me.
Young Adult books are about surviving adolescence and coming of age. New Adult is about how to live your life after that. New Adult is the “I’m officially an adult, now what?” phase.
Just like growing up, that life stage is different for everyone, but I do think there are some things that are constant.”

There are many things that I adore about these books and keep me coming back for more…

♥ Relatability

New Adult books tend to focus on the age group of 18-25. Since I fall within this age range I am able to easily relate to the characters and what they are going through.

♥ Real Life Struggles

I have found that in New Adult more than Adult Romance novels focuses a lot of self-discovery as well as taboo topics not found in Young Adult. There is more than just a romance story, but a life story with some romance in it. New Adult covers topics such as sexual assault/abuse, mental illness, drugs, friendships, careers, school etc. It really encompasses all aspects of life and I find I can relate to many things that happen as I have or I am experience similar things.

♥ Intense, Gritty and Raw Passion

This does not only refer to the romance, but also the story as a whole. The stories are gripping and real, letting the walls down and showing the vulnerability found within everyone. It shows all sides of relationships not just the sparkling and glittery, but the tough, real and sometimes bad parts of relationships.

♥ Relationships

From all the New Adult books I have read they tend to highlight and develop more than just a romantic relationship, but all forms from parent/child, siblings, and best friends. I love to see this happen. I think having these other relationships evolved and working on them as well is so true to this time in someones life. It also adds to the element of self discovery and finding ones self.

♥ Author Cross-Overs

I love that there are many YA authors who have started writing NA. There are so many that have that awesome writing style and character development that you love that appears in old characters within their NA novels!

♥ Happy For Now Endings

Keeping with the realistic aspect that is brought from the new adult genre, it shows that there doesn’t always have to be a happily ever after. It is okay to have a happy for now ending to a story because life isn’t a fairytale and there are not always happily ever after endings.

Things I Love…

I thought this was a fun little thing to start and did a previous post called Things I Love To Find in Books. This one I decided to focus on the things I love about reading. This will include all things associated with reading and the benefits I find with reading!

♠ The Book Community

One of the best benefits to starting a book blog was the introduction into the book community. I have been able to discover so many amazing bloggers, booktubers and books from my interactions and surfing of the inter-webs. I have also have been presented with all the goodies like arcs, cheap books and books I would have never known about before. Not many people in my personal life are into books and reading and being a book blogger has given me an outlet to share my love of books and reading with other book lovers!

♠ The Escape

I have to admit most times I am an escapist reader. I think this is where my problem with contemporary comes from… most of it is just too real for me (along with many of them having annoying characters etc) Life is crazy and stressful and it is nice to dive into another world and life for awhile.

♠ Learning, Knowledge, Experience

There is so much you can learn from reading a book. Even though a lot of the books I read are fiction there is still a great deal of research and fact put into those books. But also by reading non-fiction, biographies/memoirs etc. you can learn so much and gain knowledge about lives, situations and experiences that you have not had to deal with.

♠ The Physical Book/Bookmarks

I spend lots of time staring at my bookshelves. Yes I am strange and weird, just accept it! I love owning physical books and being able to showcase my favorites and all the books I have read. They are all so pretty and look amazing on display. Also bookmarks. I collect bookmarks as well and love all the different types and kinds. Recently I have been obsessed with Craftedvan bookmarks from etsy.

♠ Bookstores

I am absolutely in love with going to bookstores. Even if I go in and dont buy anything I can spend hours of time scanning the shelves and walking around. Its fun to read the tags on the shelves to see which books the employees recommend. And so many independent bookstores are so adorable and have some amazing and unique finds!

♠ Me Time

Whether I am actually reading or pretending to in order to be left alone, it is nice to take some time and just be alone. Everyone needs those nights of staying in with a hot cup of coffee, snuggling up on the couch and losing yourself in a book.

♠ Magic of a Story

Nothing is better than falling in love with a story, the characters or the world. It leads to the best fangirl worthy merch and obsessions! I love becoming all consumed into a world/story or fall absolutely in love with a character.

♠ Never Being Bored

I carry a book with me everywhere I go. There are always times you find yourself waiting in line or at a doctors appt. and nothing is worse than sitting forever and being bored. You cannot be bored with a great book to read!

What are some of the things you love about reading?

Things I Love…

I have been thinking a lot lately about the things/components/characters etc that I love to find in books. There are those things that when you are reading a book and it contains those specific components you are completely sold/hooked on the book (if that makes sense). I thought it would be fun to share mine and find out some that other people love and enjoy.

♠ Sass, Sarcasm, Witty Banter

Nothing makes me happier than reading a book with characters that are all about the sass. I have a strong sassy and sarcastic personality. So when I read a book with a character that shares this quality it is like we are speaking the same language. It is even better when there are two characters (specifically love interests) that share witty banter. I like humor in relationships and when there is the teasing and back and forth between the two. It adds to the romance and make it more enjoyable and fun. Although I am a girl and suppose to love the fairy tale and romance, the lovey ,mushy gushy stuff can be too much and the sassy attitudes and witty banter really do it for me when talking about romance.

♠ Kick Ass Female Characters

I am a feminist. As much as I swoon over the strong male characters that come to the rescue, it is nice to see when the female character can hold her own and save herself. I think it is a very important message to send to girls. You can be kickass and totally awesome all on your own. You don’t need to be whiny and dependent on a man.

♠ Equal Give and Take Relationships

I have a hard time with romance, love stories and contemporary books because usually there is the whiny girl who needs (like cant live without) the male. I enjoy when they need each other and together make each other a stronger and better person. There is nothing wrong with a strong man who comes to the rescue and make sacrifices for the girl, but why cant she make some sacrifices and be the one to save the man every once in awhile.

♠ Swoony Old Fashioned Gentlemen

I am a sucker for a well done male character. My all time favorite are the old fashioned gentlemen though. Those ones who make sacrifices and will do anything for/to protect etc for the female are just amazing. Its the young girl in me that is hopefully awaiting for prince charming.

♠ Awesome Friendships

Of course I enjoy romantical relationships in books, but sometimes I like those books that mainly focus on a friendship relationship. It is a very different dynamic, but still can make for a beautiful story. It is amazing to see to what lengths a friend will go to for each other. It is also great when they have a teasing relationship.

♠ Funny Sidekicks

Every book needs the comic relief. This goes along with my love of sass and sarcasm, but when it is in the best friend or sidekick it is always fantastic. The best example of this is Kenji from the Shatter Me trilogy. I like to laugh in books even if the book is of a darker type.

♠ Dark and Twisted Material/Feel

I know this makes me seem crazy and a tad morbid, but I just have a problem with the happy, no issues, perfect life/relationship fairy tale books. I like to know that there are other cynics and pessimists! I don’t really know why else I have a huge draw to the dark and twisted but if its in a book I will probably love it!

♠ World Building

Even if a book has underdeveloped characters, I can be sold on the book if the world building is out of this world fantastic. I like complex well thought out and detailed worlds. The ones where you feel like you are there and can see/hear/smell everything the characters are experiencing.
