Friday Reads | Read-a-thon Weekend!

downthebookhole

This is going to be a busy packed weekend for me. I have a ton of reading I want to do for both the House Cup Reading Challenge and Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon. I need to get some apartment cleaning done and I want to do some exploring of the new city I live in since its been 3 months since I have moved and have not seen much. My first mistake for attempting to complete all the things I need to accomplish this weekend was starting Mindhunter on Netflix. I have high hopes for my reading this weekend though. I am currently half way through listening to The Uninvited by Cat Winters. I have been meaning to read some of Cat Winters books and this will be my 3rd one this year. I love her writing, settings and characters. Her books contain strong females set in history that Winters describes so atmospherically. I am also about a fourth of the way into Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. I have to say I have not read many ghost stories, but so far this is the best one and proving to be a quick and gripping read! After I finish that I want to pick up Haven by Mary Lindsey as soon as possible. I am so excited about this book and cannot believe I was so lucky to receive a copy and amazing package from Entangled Publishing. It sounds like it is going to be a good one and I am already loving the quotes I have seen from the book.

Friday Reads | Preparing for Read-a-thons & Possible Deployment

downthebookhole

I am participating in The House Cup Reading Challenge which starts on Oct. 15th so I really need to get moving with Night Film by Marisha Pessl. I want to be able to start the read-a-thon off with a brand new book. I am absolutely loving Night Film and can wait to see what happens. It definitely has a dark eerie vibe perfect for the season. It is also the longest book I have read in awhile. I have been crazy busy with work and haven’t had much time to dedicate to reading but its my goal to finish it this weekend. 120 pages left! I haven’t exactly decided which book I am going to pick up first for the read-a-thon, but I am thinking Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. I have the sequel to this book and have had them forever so it would be a good place to start! I am trying to get some reading in and work on some posts before I get deployed through work to assist on the disasters. I could be gone for over a month and that will put me so behind on my reading goal.

Friday Reads | Rainy Weekend Edition

downthebookhole

All it has done all week long is rained. It looks like its going to be raining and storming all weekend long as well. The perfect solution to a rainy weekend is curling up and reading a good book, snuggling with the kittens and drinking some coffee. I’ve been fighting a pretty severe headache the past couple of days and I really hope that it will go away so I can get some serious reading done. There are so many books I want to read this month that are perfect October reads. The books I am currently reading are Night Film by Marisha Pessl and Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. I am almost half way into Night Film and I am greatly enjoying it.  It is definitely a captivating mystery and has me hooked. I am also listening to Something Wicked on audiobook. It is my first Bradbury and I am interested to see where the story goes.

Friday Reads | My Attempt to Complete Some Books

downthebookhole

I have been put in charge of another area at work and have to now do the work of 4 people. It has been completely draining me and making it nearly impossible to get any reading done. It is almost the end of the month and I would like to complete some of the books have started as well as read as much as I was at the beginning of the month. I am still listening to When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. I am also over halfway done with Never Apart by Romily Bernard. I am really hoping to spend some time on these books and get them finished. I am also planning on creating my October/Creepy/Spooky reading list this weekend. After I do that I might pick a book up from the list. Or I might pick up the next book in the Mercy Thompson World Series, I just haven’t decided yet if I am going by publication or chronologically. I also am planning on starting another audiobook I just haven’t decided which one.

Friday Reads | What Are Weekends Edition

downthebookhole

Work has really been getting in my way of doing any reading this week and I have a feeling that is going to be the case through the weekend too. I am still listening to When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. I usually listen to it as I go to sleep each night, but I have been so exhausted that I have been falling asleep with the light on. Last night I decided to take a break from my Mercy Thompson World binge read and pick up a book I received from Entangled Teen that comes out in October. It is called Never Apart by Romily Bernard. I haven’t looked too much into what this book about, but so far I am 20 pages in and it is for sure fast paced and a lot is going on that makes me want to know more.  I feel like if I actually get some time to read this weekend it will be a fast read for me. If I do get this finished I plan on picking up the next book in the Mercy Thompson World I haven’t decided which direction I want to go yet with the 2 series. I am trying to decided between publication and chronological date order. I also really have been wanting to pick up Slaughterhouse-five by Kurt Vonnegut and reread Looking For Alaska by John Green, but who knows what is going to happen.

Friday Reads | I Have To Work All Weekend Edition

downthebookhole

I am loving listening to  When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. It is cute, fun and light, which makes for a good listen as I am clean my apartment and while I am going to bed. I am also on a Patricia Briggs kick! I flew through Moon Called last weekend and quickly followed that with the Alpha & Omega Novella both by Patricia Briggs. I have been on a big Urban Fantasy binge reading wise and have found these two series to be so addictive. I might switch to a different book before continuing with these books just so I do not burn out on them. Maybe I will reread Looking For Alaska by John Green.

Friday Reads | Holiday Weekend Edition

downthebookhole

I have the long weekend off from work and my plans are to focus on reading, blogging and finishing all of my unpacking. As for what specifically I will be reading I have a few ideas. I did start Moon Called by Patricia Briggs last night and plan on finishing that first. I am only like 20 pages in, but already I know I am going to love this series! I also started listening to The Good Girl by Mary Kubica but I don’t know if I will continue because I am struggling with the narrator. I also have When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon as an audiobook and have been hearing nothing but great things about this book. As for other physical books I will read I am not 100% sure on, but some time this weekend I will be posting about my September TBR and it will be one of those books I pick up next! So it is going to be a weekend of relaxing, reading and catching up on my blog!

I forgot to do this and post it yesterday so I figured I would play catch up. With the storms going on in TX I have been crazy busy with work. I have been trying really hard to get some reading done and participate in Bout of Books. I am currently reading Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel with is an ARC I have received from the publisher. I am also listening to The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy. I am really enjoying both books. They are both unique in their own ways!

Friday Reads | Moving Edition

downthebookhole

I am currently still reading Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. This book has been taking me awhile to get through, but its because I haven’t had the time to fully dedicate to it. I am enjoying it and really hoping to finish it before the end of the month. As for what other book I am going to pick up or read after this one I have no idea. There are so many books I have been wanting to read. I have had such a great desire to read just haven’t had the attention span or time. After I make this move this weekend, I have one full week before I start my job. I am hoping to get some reading in before I start my job as I get settled into my new place. I also really want to make sure I set aside time every night to do some reading because I need it in my life.

Friday Reads | Last Moments of Freedom

downthebookhole

This is my last free weekend for awhile. Next weekend I am moving for my new job so it is going to be crazy busy with the packing, unpacking etc. The weekends that follow that are going to be busy with trying to get settled into a new location, work and doing all the things one must do when they move to a new state. So between packing and just straight up relaxing this weekend with a friend, I am going to try and read as much as possible. I am also trying to write some posts in case I do not have much time in the next few weeks. I am currently about a third of the way through Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. It is taking me a little longer than I had hoped to read this book because it take a lot of focus from me, but I am enjoying it. I am also thinking about starting The Politics and Civics of National Service: Lessons from the Civilian Conservation Corps, VISTA, and AmeriCorps by Melissa Bass. I served 2 years recently in AmeriCorps NCCC and it had a huge impact on my life. With the new changes going on in my life I am really missing the people I met and friends I made in this program. National service and civic engagement has become a huge part of my life and is really important to me. And because I like to make things difficult for myself and seem to work better multitasking I will probably be picking up another smut books just to break up the others.
